Description
A Pinot Noir of exceptionally high class! It is not without reason that this wine received 97 Suckling points - look under the Rating tab for all ratings. With this Royal St. Robert Cuvee, brothers Carlo and Dante Mondavi honor their grandfather Robert Mondavi, who taught them to always strive for perfection. Carlo and Dante founded Raen Winery in 2013 with the goal of producing world-class Pinot Noir on the western hills of the Sonoma Coast. And believe us, this wine certainly succeeded.
The wine is made from a selection of the very best barrels, which provide a view of the cool and rugged western hills of California's Sonoma Coast. The wine has beautiful aromas of freshly cut wild strawberries, rose petals and hibiscus flowers on the nose. The intense flavors of dark cherry, strawberry, white tea, thyme, sweet resin and forest floor give this wine a full, spicy taste. Furthermore, it has a mineral tone (pulverized stone). A medium body wine with a long, full aftertaste. 100% Pinot Noir, bottled unfiltered. The wine is aged for 10 months in 60-liter French oak barrels (10% new, 4-year air-dried French oak and 90% neutral French oak barrels). Bottled without filtration. 97/100 Suckling
Excellent wine with beef, veal, game dishes (venison) and poultry.

Pale to medium ruby, the 2021 Pinot Noir Royal St. Robert is bursting with fragrant scents of raspberry, cranberry, rhubarb, orange peel, tea leaves and bitters. The medium-bodied palate is chalky and refreshing with pure, expressive fruit and a long, floral finish. Juicy and inviting, drink it now for all that floral perfume, or let it develop in bottle over the next 5-7 years.

Extremely spicy with iron, forest flower, black tea, and dried strawberry aromas, following through to a medium to full body, with lovely velvety tannins that are integrated and refined, with a long and flavorful finish. Yet it always remains refined and poised in a exemplary way. Needs three or four years still to show it’s true self. Drink or hold.

Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast Royal St. Robert Cuvée 2021
Beautifully defined, with pinpoint damson plum, mulberry and blood orange notes stretched out over a frame of rooibos tea and savory accents. Mouthwatering through the lengthy, unadorned finish, which relies on tension and purity. Drink now through 2032. 2,075 cases made.

The 2021 Pinot Noir Royal St. Robert is outrageously beautiful. Deep, pliant and layered, the 2021 is an absolute delight. A burst of sweet red berry fruit, sage, mint, crushed leaves and spice all open in a yielding, mid-weight Pinot endowed with striking balance. There's gorgeous texture and resonance here. Silky tannins wrap up in the inviting finish.

This is a fine set of new releases from Raen and brothers Carlo and Dante Mondavi. Readers will note the addition of two new Chardonnays with the 2021 vintage, both from the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA, one of the spots on the West Sonoma Coast where Chardonnay can be incredibly distinctive. The 2021 Pinots are gorgeous wines that offer a striking mix of vibrant, deep fruit with the energy and savoriness that are such Raen signatures. I must say, I was also quite impressed with the two 2020 Pinots I tasted. Sadly, production was down sharply in 2020, more than 50%. For that reason, Raen did not send in their Pinot Noir Bodega.
