Quintessa is one of the iconic wines of Napa Valley, California. This Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated wine (the 2021 vintage contains 91% Cabernet Sauvignon) is produced in Rutherford. Quintessa is produced entirely organically and biodynamically. The 2019 vintage received 100 points from Roger Voss on Wine Enthusiast! The 2021 Quintessa is almost European-style, yet still truly Napa. Delicious deep fruit, earth, chocolate, licorice, and eucalyptus. The Quintessa offers nuance, depth, and great persistence. A complex of floral, forest, fruit, and earthy notes harmonize with fine-grained tannins and lively acidity. The 2021 Quintessa is ready to drink now for those who prefer a youthful expression, but will also cellar for at least another twenty years for those who appreciate the complexity of age.

“This is a winemaker's master class in blending and understanding of a longstanding site. Dried herb, cedar and pencil shavings accent lifted red fruit and brilliant acidity on the palate, with a supple yet still youthfully grippy texture that is framed by structured, graceful tannins”

ABOUT QUINTESSA

Quintessa, HIDDEN IN THE HEART OF RUTHERFORD, sits on a 280-hectare estate that reflects a diverse geology, biodiversity, exposure, and microclimate. Inspired by this distinctive terrain, founders Agustin and Valeria Huneeus believed it was destined to become one of the world's great wine estates. Today, a total of 160 hectares are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Carménère across 26 vineyard blocks. Each block is harvested—organically and biodynamically—and vinified individually to preserve the nuances of the land.

Depending on the vintage, Quintessa may contain some or all of the five varietals grown on the property: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Carménère. The fruit is harvested early in the morning, then sorted and gravity-fed into oak, stainless steel, or concrete tanks and vinified. Once fermentation and maceration are complete, the wine from each plot is aged separately in French oak for up to two years. After the final Quintessa blend is created, the wine is bottled and aged for another year before release.
