The Californian EOS refers to the name of the Greek goddess of the dawn Eos, who opened the gates of heaven every day and caused the sun to rise. Eos was cursed by Aphrodite for having an affair with Ares. Her punishment was an insatiable hunger for young men. At Eos - the winery - they are as passionate as the namesake, but our insatiable hunger is healthier and focused on the production of dense reds, complex whites and sumptuous dessert wines.
The EOS Pinot Noir California is very 100% Pinot Noir. The grapes come from several vineyards in California, including Sonoma County, Lake County, and the Central Coast. The juice is fermented in a combination of stainless steel and new oak. In the glass, the EOS Pinot Noir has a ruby red colour. In the nose, this fruit-driven wine is full of aromas of raspberries, cherries, spices and herbs. In the mouth, this is a juicy wine with lots of red fruit (strawberries, cherries), spices and soft notes of oak. Delicious with roasted pork, smoked ham. Also delicious with a pizza with tomato sauce and smoked sausage.
Het Californische EOS verwijst naar de naam van de Griekse godin van de dageraad Eos, die elke dag de hemelpoort opende en daarmee de zon liet opkomen. De godin Eos stond bekend als zeer gepassioneerd in de liefde: de wijnmakers van EOS zijn dat ook, maar dan in wijn! In het Paso Robles-gebied worden sinds 1797 druiven verbouwd en de commerciële wijnproductie begon in de jaren 1880. De afgelopen 20 jaar is het aantal wijnmakerijen geëxplodeerd van 20 naar 200, omdat wijnmakers het buitengewone potentieel van het terroir in de regio zijn gaan beseffen. Tegenwoordig wordt Paso Robles beschouwd als een van de belangrijkste appellaties aan de centrale kust voor de blends van Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Grenache, Petite Sirah en Rhone. Eos werd halverwege de jaren tachtig opgericht door de familie Arciero en kreeg in de loop der jaren lovende kritieken voor zijn Zinfandels, Cabernets en dessertwijnen.
