Description
Miguel Sánchez's 12 hectares are divided into 600 different plots, each with a completely different soil composition, each of which has been analyzed individually. Everything is farmed strictly biodynamically; the use of tractors or any chemical products is strictly avoided. Sulphurizing, filtering, or stabilizing the wine is also prohibited. The grapes are harvested in very small crates and fermented in the cellar in cement or stainless steel tanks. The wine was aged in French oak barriques, 50% of which were new.
This wine is fresh, attractive, and full of sweet fruit. It's an expressive wine with excellent intensity and depth. It comes from 80-year-old pre-phylloxer vineyards. This truly is a great value wine, and it's (relatively) very affordable compared to other wines produced by this estate, as well as other, often much more expensive, Ribera del Duero wines. Intense red fruit, a touch of sweetness, a hint of spice, and approachable tannins.
FACT: The wine is stored in our climate-controlled Wine Warehouse, and if you pick it up, you'll often receive a nice discount . You'll see your discount immediately when you select "Pick up" at checkout. We're located in Dordrecht, just off the A16 motorway, with ample parking. Click here for our address.

The perfumed, floral and aromatic 2021 Parada de Atauta combines ripeness with freshness and elegance. It's not a shy wine at 15% alcohol but keeps the poise and harmony, with a round and tender palate, very fine tannins and purity of flavors. It was bottled after 12 months in French oak barrels, 20% of them new, and a further five months in concrete. 64,398 bottles and 2,767 magnums produced. It was bottled in September 2023.

Dominio de Atauta Ribera del Duero Parada de Atauta 2021
Tuesday, Aug 13, 2024
Color: Red
Country: Spain
Region: Castilla y León
Vintage: 2021
Lots of dark brambleberries, Morello cherries, violets, chocolate and blackberries. Juicy and nicely chewy on the palate, with a full body and a tight-grained finish. From the old vines of Atauta and Ines. Peppery and pretty long. Better in one more year.

From: Duero: From Ribera to Toro via Rueda (And a Few Other Detours) (Jun 2025)
The 2021 Parada de Atauta comes from the Atauta Valley, with 15% fruit sourced from surrounding Ribera del Duero sites. It was fermented in concrete and aged for 12 months in oak, up to 20% new. Red and black fruit aromas mingle with a touch of jam and bright cherry. The palate is juicy, with fine-grained, grippy tannins and a tight, agile mouthfeel. This wine reflects the vivacity of sandy soils, showing light body and vibrant expression.

The wine importer Miguel Sánchez's trip to Atauta was a fluke for the entire region. Passing through the Ribera del Duero, he discovered the small valley with its ancient, deserted vineyards, more than 400-year-old wine cellars, ancient cellar vaults and even the stone wine presses from the 13th century were still available. A wine wonderland that has fallen asleep.
The east of the DO was known to be difficult to exploit, as the vines are at a considerable height of nearly 1,000 meters. Miguel Sánchez came, saw and conquered: the youngest Tempranillo vines are 60 years old, the oldest vines are up to 160 years old, really incredible. An immense wealth! They immediately gave exceptionally beautiful results, after the wild plots were kissed awake. With the release of the first wines, it immediately became clear that this was not only one of the best wines from all over the country, but even from all over the world! The strict organic and parcel for parcel separately brought up wines are among the best ever extracted from the grape variety Tempranillo.
