Description
Domaine Sylvain Morey Santenay, 1st Cru Grand Clos Rousseau, comes from a neighboring vineyard in Maranges and was inherited from Sylvain's father, Jean-Marc Morey, who planted it in 1993. A true Santenay, intensely aromatic with impressive body and velvety tannins. Harmonious with a lingering finish. A red not to be missed.
Sylvain Morey comes from a family with a winemaking history dating back 400 years, in Chassagne-Montrachet. He is the son of Jean-Marc Morey, a respected winemaker from 1980 to 2014, and the brother of winemaker Caroline Morey, who is the wife of Pierre Yves Colin . As might be expected, Sylvain Morey also studied oenology in Beaune and Dijon. After working in France and California, Sylvain returned to Burgundy. Shortly thereafter, in 1996, the desire to explore more and a meeting with Ludmila led him to the Luberon, a large, oyster-shell-shaped vineyard in the heart of Provence, north of Aix.
In 2014, Sylvain's father, Jean-Marc Morey, decided to divide his eight-hectare estate. Sylvain and his sister Caroline (wife of Pierre-Yves Colin ) each received four hectares. Sylvain's plots are spread across the communes of Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay, and Saint-Aubin. He also inherited the family home at the bottom of the village. That same year, he produced his first Burgundy wines under the Domaine Sylvain Morey label. With his deep Burgundian roots and the strong confidence gained from two decades of winemaking in the Luberon, Sylvain has already made an impression on the wine world with his confident winemaking style. His wines, both red and white, display enormous elegance and power, excellent mineral texture, finesse, and are worthy of aging. Sylvain Morey is a name to watch.
