Description
All Tony Bish wines are produced in vineyards certified according to the New Zealand sustainability system. The vines are managed sustainably without the use of pesticides. The harvested fruit is carefully destemmed without crushing the grapes. After the juice has settled, it is transferred to large, 9hL French oak barrels for further maturation.
The Skeetfield Vineyard has old, dry Chardonnay vines. The fruit is picked by hand and the entire bunch is pressed with minimal pressure. This wine is 100% barrel fermented and aged, in barrels made from 60% new Taransaud French oak. Barrel fermentation and malolactic fermentation have added complexity and depth. Battonage has produced excellent texture. Minimal treatment up to bottling has preserved the purity and intensity of the wine. The Skeetfield is a wine with exceptional power and grace. The Skeetfield has pleasant aromas of brioche, peach, vanilla, citrus peel and roasted hazelnuts. The taste is powerful with enormous length. This full, elegant chardonnay goes well with lobster and langoustine.

ABOUT TONY BISH
It was the early 80's when Tony Bish started his journey with wine. He had little money at the time, but with the little money he did have he went skiing at Mountt Hutt. Here the first vintage with Corbans in Gisborne was a pragmatic start to what has become a forty-year passionate career. Six years later, Tony graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science in oenology. At that stage, Tony's new knowledge and experience were already being called upon. In 1986 he founded Hill Wines in Hawkes's Bay together with the Mason brothers Sacred. Tony consciously makes the choice to only continue with the Chardonnay grape................ Pineapple, peach, even a hint of apricot may be found on the nose of the 2017 Skeetfield Chardonnay. All that ripe, luscious fruit is framed by fermentation in French oak, imparting a sense of structure and order to the wine. It's medium to full-bodied but fairly linear on the palate, showing great drive and energy on the long, citrus-tinged finish.

An ultra-complex and powerful chardonnay, sourced back to the same vineyard that Bish worked with when making Rifleman’s Chardonnay at Sacred Hill. The dynamic power, coupled with ultra-deep, ripe, yellow stone fruit here is compelling. A bold and impressive statement of chardonnay. Drink or hold.

He and Karryn launched Tony Bish Wines in 2013, and they now sell four chardonnay styles directly to other chardonnay lovers across the country and around the world. Tony's creative spirit was unleashed in 2013, after a trip to South America, where he made wine that was produced in egg-shaped tanks. With some ingenuity and local know-how from Hastings-based NZ Tanks, Tony built the first concrete egg fermenters in New Zealand.
