Description
The Redheads winery has launched 2 new wines. The MC1R Blonde and the MC1R Rouge. MC1R is the gene that determines that you get a red hair color. The Redheads MC1R Blonde is made from a large portion of Chardonnay, supplemented with Viognier and some Roussanne. The grapes for the MC1R Blonde come from the Adelaide Hills and are picked by hand. The wine is fermented in French oak barrels with wild yeasts with regular batonnage (stirring the yeast cells) to soften and round the wine. The wine then matures for six months in oak barrels, both new and used.
In the glass, the MC1R Blonde is yellow gold. The wine is fruity, with notes of apricots, with spicy and floral notes, peach and hints of citrus and a subtle creaminess. A delicious round full wine and an excellent wine with a Thai fish curry.
FACT: RedHeads wines were the official house wines during the RedHead Days in Tilburg in 2019. RedHead Days is the largest international festival for redheads and fans. 25,000 visitors from the Netherlands and far beyond the national border came to the festival. Visitors could taste RedHeads wines and attend a masterclass.

Redheads Studio winery is located in South Australia in the town of Tanuda, in the Barossa Valley where the dedicated team behind Redheads work tirelessly, from the vine to the bottle and beyond, to ensure the wines can always be in their best condition drunk.
It all started with a few Aussie winemakers who went to France to show the 'old hands' some new tricks there. Australian wine had conquered the world in the 1970s and 1980s. That's why Tony Laithwaite brought some Aussies to France. It was there that the very beginning of RedHead's new viticultural movement was laid.
In a small shed in McLaren Vale, a former Indian restaurant, some winemakers took on the challenge of making their dream come true: making beautiful, creative wines in small volumes with primary focus on quality.
They wanted to make wines without being bothered by all kinds of business worries, which resulted in an explosion of creativity and experiments.
Meanwhile, winery Redheads is making great international progress and they still give young talents the opportunity to let their creativity and talents loose on the best grapes in the region. Redheads Wines says of itself: “A free-spirited, movement liberating the best grapes from the premium labels to make wines with soul, character and personality”
