2020 Mount Mary Vineyard Triolet is one of Australia's most characterful white blends and has been a staple of the Mount Mary range for years. Inspired by classic white Bordeaux blends from Pessac-Léognan and Graves, the wine combines Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Muscadelle into a wine with impressive freshness, complexity, and aging potential. Thanks to the cool climate of the Yarra Valley, Triolet retains its refined style and exceptional balance.

Mount Mary Vineyard

Mount Mary Vineyard was founded in 1971 by John and Marli Middleton and is now one of Australia's most prestigious wineries. From the beginning, the focus was on elegant, terroir-driven wines that could rival the great classics of Burgundy and Bordeaux. The second generation of Middletons is now at the helm, and the same philosophy of quality remains undiminished.

The estate boasts approximately 16 hectares of vineyards in the cool Yarra Valley, east of Melbourne. All wines are produced and bottled entirely on the estate. Sustainability plays a key role: Mount Mary invests in biodiversity, reforestation, healthy soils, and minimal use of chemicals, with the aim of preserving the terroir for future generations.

A classic white Bordeaux blend from Australia

Triolet is composed of 75% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Sémillon, and 5% Muscadelle . In doing so, the wine aligns with classic white Bordeaux blends, but with a unique signature typical of the Yarra Valley. Sauvignon Blanc provides freshness and aromatic precision, Sémillon offers structure and aging potential, while Muscadelle adds a subtle floral complexity.

Vinification

To create extra texture and depth, the grapes are pressed relatively firmly. The fine lees are regularly stirred during aging, allowing the wine to gain creaminess, complexity, and structure without losing its fresh character. Subsequently, Triolet ages in barrels for approximately eleven months, where the wood serves the wine entirely.

Scent, taste and character

The wine opens with refined aromas of citrus, lime, ripe pear, and white peach, complemented by subtle notes of passion fruit, white flowers, and a light spiciness. In the background, mineral notes and a subtle smokiness provide additional depth.

On the palate, Triolet is remarkably energetic and refined. The combination of ripe citrus fruit, stone fruit, and lively acidity gives the wine great tension. Furthermore, thanks to aging on the fine lees, a soft, creamy texture develops that contrasts beautifully with the fresh minerality.

The finish is long, clean, and elegant, with persistent notes of citrus, pear, minerality, and subtle spiciness. The wine impresses with its balance, precision, and gastronomic versatility.

Drinking window and food and wine pairings

Preferably serve the wine at 10 to 12°C.

Excellent with oysters, lobster, scallops, grilled white fish, sushi, ceviche, asparagus, risotto, poultry, goat cheese, and light dishes with creamy sauces.
