2022 Isabelle et Dennis Pommier Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume

Isabelle et Denis Pommier or colloquially Pommier is a small family producer from Chablis who produce flawless high-quality wines that are highly appreciated internationally. Isabelle and Denis Pommier cherish the unique soil in Chablis, where they have owned vineyards since 1990. They started with 2 hectares, on which the family grew grapes from which the juice was sold to other winemakers. In the following years they planted grape vines in the Chablis and the Petit Chablis. With their first own wine, in 1994, they immediately won the Concours des Vins de Chablis.

The vineyard property has now been expanded to 16 hectares in the Petit Chablis, Chablis and Chablis premier cru appellations. With this size it is still a real family domain. Pommier works with respect for nature and is in the process of converting to organic. The wines are pure with the beautiful mineral notes that are so specific to Chablis, but also juicy and round in taste due to the clay-rich soil. The wines are regularly awarded both in France (e.g. the Guide Hachette) and internationally (e.g. Robert Parker). Parker calls Pommier one of the Chablis houses that is experiencing the most spectacular development.

The Isabelle et Dennis Pommier Chablis comes from the Premier Cru (sub)appellation of the Chablis, namely the Fourchaume. The soil consists of the characteristic kimmeridgian, a mixture of clay, lime and fossil shellfish. This very refined 1er Cru is a Chablis with elegance and minerality. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. The wine then matures on the yeast cells ('sur lie') for 12 months at 50% capacity in temperature-controlled stainless steel barrels. The other 50% on used wooden barriques from 2 to 5 years old. This softens the wine and adds extra complexity. The taste of this Isabelle et Dennis Pommier Chablis 1er Cru Fourchaume is full and rich, with refined acidity, lots of juice, wood effects and a very long aftertaste.
