Description
Miguel Sánchez's 12 hectares are divided into 600 different plots, which have completely different soil compositions, each of which has been analyzed separately. Everything is strictly biodynamically exploited, the use of tractors or any chemical product whatsoever is absolutely renounced, and sulphurizing, filtering or stabilizing the wine is also not permitted. The grapes are harvested in very small boxes and fermented in the cellar in cement or stainless steel tanks. The wine was aged in French oak barriques, 50% of which were new.
This wine is fresh, attractive and with sweet fruit. It is an expressive wine with a very good intensity and depth. Comes from 80 year old pre-phylloxer vineyards. This is truly a wine with a lot of wine for the money and is (relatively) very cheap if you compare it with other wines made in this winery but also with the other often much more expensive Ribera Del Duero wines. Intense red fruit, a little sweet, a touch of herbs and approachable tannins.
FACT: The wine is in our conditioned Wine Warehouse and if you come to pick up the wine you will often also receive a nice discount . You will see your discount immediately when you choose 'Pick up' on the checkout page. We are located in Dordrecht almost next to the A16 with plenty of parking. Click here for our address.

The youngest of the reds here, the 2020 Parada de Atauta was selected from 90+-year-old vines on sandy soils from a rainier and cooler year that they compare with 2016. The grapes fermented destemmed in concrete and stainless steel and underwent malolactic in concrete followed by 13 months in French oak barrels, 20% of them new, plus four more months in concrete before being bottled. It's slightly lighter and less ripe than the 2019 (which I also tasted on this occasion), with 14.5% alcohol and a pH of 3.6 denoting freshness and balance. It has a creamy nose that combines red berries with darker ones and some sweet spices and smoke in a subtle and harmonious way. The tannins are very fine and the mouthfeel quite silky. 52,823 bottles and 900 magnums produced. It was bottled in August 2022.
Dominio de Atauta is one of the leading producers in the Soria zone of Ribera del Duero, where they own 24 hectares of vines and control a further 32—in total, more than 700 small plots of very old vines in the Atauta Valley. They do an organic and biodynamic viticulture (not certified). Production varies between 60,000 and 120,000 bottles, depending on the conditions of the vintage.
The sister project, Atalayas de Golbán (although it's better known by their brand la Celestina), is also part of Dominio de Atauta, and it represents a further 40 hectares of controlled vineyards and 300,000 bottles.

Notes of dark cherries, plums, chocolate, hints of sandalwood and cloves. Full and chewy with tight-grained tannins and succulent fruit underneath. Linear and focused with a chalky minerality at the end. Try after 2024.

The wine importer Miguel Sánchez's trip to Atauta was a fluke for the entire region. Passing through the Ribera del Duero, he discovered the small valley with its ancient, deserted vineyards, more than 400-year-old wine cellars, ancient cellar vaults and even the stone wine presses from the 13th century were still available. A wine wonderland that has fallen asleep.
The east of the DO was known to be difficult to exploit, as the vines are at a considerable height of nearly 1,000 meters. Miguel Sánchez came, saw and conquered: the youngest Tempranillo vines are 60 years old, the oldest vines are up to 160 years old, really incredible. An immense wealth! They immediately gave exceptionally beautiful results, after the wild plots were kissed awake. With the release of the first wines, it immediately became clear that this was not only one of the best wines from all over the country, but even from all over the world! The strict organic and parcel for parcel separately brought up wines are among the best ever extracted from the grape variety Tempranillo.
