Description
German winery Markus Molitor, famous for its impressive range of Moselle wines, purchased the Domäne Serrig vineyard in the Saar Valley in 2016. Domäne Serrig is the former Prussian state estate that was founded in 1904 by Kaiser Wilhelm. Markus Molitor has extensively restructured the 25 hectare Serriger Vogelsang vineyard and is now bringing the very first releases to the market. Due to the unique history of the vineyard, the wines are marketed as Domäne Serrig. The first reviews are immediately high: Wine Advocate awards 100 points to the Grosse Lage! The Vogelsang vineyard faces south/southwest and at an altitude of 220-340 meters. After 10 months of lees maturing, the bottles were first stored in the wine cellars for another 2 years. The Kabinett matures in steel tanks, the Grosse Lage in oak Stockinger barrels. Markus Molitor is a German star winemaker and Riesling 'Supermo' with 23x100 points and 35x99 points from renowned critics such as Wine Advocate & James Suckling.
The Vogelsang Kabinett is pure, bright and fresh with a very delicate and sharp nose that shows precise and elegant fruit, interwoven with the serious, hard minerality of the gray and red slate soils of the domaine plus cool vegetal nuances of nettle and mint. Round and intense yet light and elegant on the palate, this is a pure, lush and round but also very mineral, beautifully playful and taste-stimulating Kabinett. The sweetness is discreet and is balanced by the immense mineral and salty taste. The finish is spectacularly long and tense, extremely complex and stimulating even at this age. These classic Kabinetts are reminiscent of the most beautiful Scharzhofberger Kabinetts by Egon Müller.

DOMÄNE SERRIG was founded in 1904 as a royal Prussian state domain in the Saar Valley; one of the largest and most avant-garde state domains of its time. The domain was privatized in the late 1980s and later acquired by Markus Molitor in 2016. Only then did the domain benefit from extensive recultivation and restructuring of the site. The name of the vineyard is Volgelsang, a 25 hectare monopole of unique quality, south/southwest facing, with vines rising steeply from 150 to 340 meters on reddish slate soils and slopes up to 105%. Purist winemaking with hand-harvested and selected grapes, maceration of the skins (to reduce acidity), pressed through a traditional basket, natural spontaneous fermentation, aging on the lees for 10 months in large Stockinger (Austrian) barrels (3,000 l ) and then another 2 years of bottle aging before release. This topper (and also the Kabinet van Serrig) are distributed by Place du Bordeaux to the official wine trade
