Description
The 2020 Clos du Marquis is composed of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc and has a modest alcohol content of 13.5% alcohol. The Clos de Marquis has a deep purple black color in the glass and it bursts out of the glass with flamboyant notes of blackberries, ripe juicy plums and black currants and with a little more time in the glass there are also aromas of licorice, leather, roses and espresso upwards. The medium-bodied palate is fully enveloped in perfumed black fruit, framed by firm, grainy tannins and a nice freshness, with a long and fragrant finish.
Clos du Marquis is often seen as the second wine of Château Léoville-Las Cases, but it is not. It is a separate estate with a different terroir. The plot is surrounded by Grand Crus Classés from Pauillac and Saint-Julien, including Léoville-Las Cases, Léoville Poyferré, Léoville Barton and Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande.

Wijnhuis
Clos du Marquis is often seen as the second wine of Château Léoville-Las Cases, but it is not. It is a separate estate with a different terroir. The plot is surrounded by Grand Crus Classés from Pauillac and Saint-Julien, including Léoville-Las Cases, Léoville Poyferré, Léoville Barton and Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande. From 2010, this cru includes all plots outside the walled vineyard of Léoville Las Cases, ie the other side of the road. These terroirs are grand, as they are surrounded by several 2nd Crus from St. Julien and Pauillac. Clos du Marquis is a powerful wine from Hubert Delon, and is much cheaper than his Léoville Las Cases, but is vinified by the same team and with the same techniques. The wines are known for very long storage potential.
