Description
The 2020 Marquis de Terme has an intense red-purple color with pronounced notes of black currant syrup, blackberry preserves and kirsch on the nose, plus suggestions of bay leaves, forest floor, and black truffles. The medium-bodied palate is soft and juicy, delivering a good amount of ripe black fruit without being heavy, ending with a spicy finish.

About Marquis de Terme
Château Marquis de Terme is a Quatrième Grand Cru Classé from Margaux next to Ch. Rauzan Gassies and Ch. Rauzan Segla. The domain is 40 hectares and planted with 60% cabernet sauvignon, 33% merlot and 7% petit verdot. The ideal blend is put together for the Grand Vin every year. The other domains into which Rauzan was divided are Château Rauzan-Gassies, Château Rauzan-Ségla and Château Desmirail. Marquis de Terme is named after François de Péguilhan de Larboust, Marquis de Thermes. In 1855 the domain was given the status of Quatrième Grand Cru Classé. Since 1935, Château Marquis de Terme has been owned by the Sénéclauze family and it still is. Ludovic David is in charge of the day-to-day management of the domain. Château Marquis de Terme also makes a second wine called La Couronne de Marquis de Terme since 2008.

The 2020 Marquis de Terme sports a deep garnet-purple color and pronounced notes of blackcurrant cordial, blackberry preserves and kirsch, plus suggestions of bay leaves, forest floor, black truffles and hoisin. The medium-bodied palate is soft and juicy, delivering a good amount of ripe black fruits without heaviness, finishing with a spicy kick.
This blend is 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. It is aging for 18 months in French oak barriques, 50% new. The alcohol is 14%.

The 2020 Marquis de Terme is one of the best offerings from this Margaux estate in recent years. It has a lively and well-defined bouquet with blackcurrant, wild strawberry and pencil box scents, perhaps a little Pauillac in style. The palate is medium-bodied with grip and backbone, well balanced and poised, I appreciate the salinity of this Marquis de Terme and the manner in which it discretely persists on the finish. Classy.
