Description

This winery was founded in 1990 and aims to be part of sustainable viticulture. Benoît Ente is mainly associated with the production of white wines in Burgundy, with an emphasis on Chardonnay. The Ente family (Arnaud Ente) has been involved in winemaking for generations. Benoît took over the family estate and was recognized for his meticulous work in the vineyard and the production of wines that show the terroir of the region.

Benoît Ente's vineyards are mainly located in the Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault appellations, which are known for their Chardonnays. Puligny-Montrachet is particularly famous for its white wines, known for their elegance, minerality and aging potential. Meursault is also known for producing both red and white Burgundy wines of high quality. With almost 6 hectares, it extends over Puligny-Montrachet, supplemented by a vineyard located in Chassagne-Montrachet. In a dynamic of preserving the aromatic richness of terroirs and grape varieties, they look for natural acidity, so that the original aromas of the fruit are expressed. The wines are aged for 18 months, divided between wood and stainless steel. The different vintages are treated equally, without filtration, with the aim that the only factors of variation are the characteristics of the climate.

Now Benoît Ente owns four foudres and a number of 600-litre barrels, and as of 2019 he has banned 228-litre barrels from the cellar altogether, with 228-litre glass “wine globes” taking their place. Furthermore, the small yields mean that foudre-matured wine represents a larger proportion of the total production than usual. He presses uncrushed whole bunches, using a pressing cycle that lasts over three hours, with just three rotations – in the pursuit of both a structuring dry extract and a low pH. Bottling, under high-quality natural cork, is carried out with the precision that seems to be a hereditary trait in this meticulous family.
