Description
The word Anima refers to vital life force or soul. This Chenin Blanc is also so called because the vibrant minerals of Avondale's soil give this wine its own delicious, spicy character and extraordinary energy. A nose that develops intriguingly in the glass. Melon, pineapple, lime and a touch of honey confirm the elegance and fullness. The taste has fresh fruit impressions of gooseberry, quince and peach, with that spicy minerality at the end in the aftertaste. Here too, like all other Avondale wines, completely organic. Veal, quail in orange sauce or sweet and spicy dishes from Asian cuisine. The label on the bottle of the Anima Chenin Blanc is the tree of life and is a modern representation of it
the evolutionary tree that shows how all life arises are interconnected through a complex series of relationships
The Avondale Anima Chenin Blanc is made from certified organic Chenin Blanc grapes. Our vines range between 15 and 35 years old and provide low yields of between 4 and 8 tons of healthy balanced grapes. The hand-picked, organically grown grapes were harvested at 22˚ - 23° Balling, whole bunch pressed
and then naturally fermented in 500 liter French oak barrels. 15-20% of the grapes were fermented as whole bunches in amphora which adds unique body and length to the wine. After fermentation, the wine remains on the lees for 12 months with regular battonage. Sur Lieu or as they say in South Africa: Vatgegis
FACT: In the Tab: Appendix you will find the official fact sheet of this beautiful wine. We will send it to you automatically when you order this wine. The wine is in our conditioned Wine Warehouse and if you pick up the wine you will also receive a nice discount.
Avondale is committed to fair and decent living and working conditions for all employees and you can taste this in their wines. Their fresh, lush yet elegant organic white is named after Jonty's Ducks, a group of ducks that work here as natural pest controllers. Owner Johnathan Grieve employs a "posse" of ducks who patrol the vineyard in search of snails that eat the vines. The ducks are an environmentally friendly way to avoid the use of harmful chemicals and thus serve as the guardians of the
vines on Avondale (see also the video with the duck surveillance)
