Description
Avondale Jonty's Ducks Pekin White is a blend of primarily Chenin Blanc, Roussanne, Viognier, and Semillon. The organic vineyards are between 20 and 35 years old. After hand-picking, the whole bunches are thoroughly chilled overnight before pressing. The wine is fermented with wild yeast between 18 and 24ºC. Part is fermented in used oak barrels (600 liters) and the rest in stainless steel. In all cases, the wine remains on its lees for at least six months with regular batonnage. The result is impressive. You'll taste pure fruit notes of lime, grapefruit, pineapple, quince, and a hint of honey. The palate is full of ripe flavors and juicy, with tangy peach and brie flavors, delivered with good intensity and freshness. These delicious aromas linger long on the palate. A delicious wine for now, but also suitable for aging for several years. Jonty's Ducks Pekin White is delicious with Coquilles St. Jacques with a light beurre blanc finished with a little lime zest and is a great accompaniment to spicy dishes such as an Indian curry.

Avondale is committed to fair and decent living and working conditions for all employees, and you can taste that in their wines. Their fresh, lush, yet elegant organic white is named after Jonty's Ducks, a group of ducks that serve as natural pest control. Owner Johnathan Grieve employs a posse of ducks who patrol the vineyard in search of snails that eat the vines. The ducks are an environmentally friendly way to avoid the use of harmful chemicals and thus serve as guardians of the vineyard.
