2021 Avondale Jonty's Ducks Pekin Red BIO

“Jonty” here is Jonathan Grieve. He is the winemaker at Avondale, but also the keeper of many ducks. His ducks ensure, among other things, that organic viticulture is perfectly feasible here, as they happily nibble away at all kinds of unwanted weeds and pests. The Avondale Jonty's Ducks Pekin Red is a blend of Shiraz (50%), Cabernet Sauvignon (20%), Cabernet Franc (10%), Merlot (9%), Petit Verdot (6%), and Malbec (5%). Meanwhile, the Pekin Red wine is pure delight! The wine reveals itself generously. Deep dark color. A seductive nose of pepper, dried herbs, and cassis aromas. It has a medium body on the palate with juicy flavors of cherries, plums, and raspberries. Excellent acidity and smoothly integrated tannins provide the necessary tension at the finish. Delicious with Melanzane Parmigiana, or a homemade hamburger.

Owner Jonathan Grieve employs a "posse" of ducks that patrol the vineyard in search of snails eating the vines. The ducks are an environmentally friendly way to avoid the use of harmful chemicals and thus serve as the guardians of the
