Description
“Jonty” here is Jonathan Grieve. He is the winemaker at Avondale but also the keeper of many ducks. His ducks ensure, among other things, that organic viticulture is perfectly possible here, as they nibble away all kinds of unwanted weeds and vermin. The Avondale Jonty's Ducks Pekin red is a blend of Shiraz (50%), Cabernet Sauvignon (20%), Cabernet Franc (10%), Merlot (9%), Petit Verdot (6%) Malbec (5%). The Pekin Red wine is now pure pleasure! The wine gives itself generously. Deep dark color. A seductive nose of pepper, dried herbs and cassis aromas. It has a medium body on the palate with juicy flavors of cherries, plums and raspberries. Excellent acidity and smoothly integrated tannins for the necessary tension at the end. Delicious with Melanzane Parmiggiana, or a home made hamburger.
FACT: In the Tab: Appendix you will find the official fact sheet of this beautiful wine. We will send it to you automatically when you order this wine. The wine is in our conditioned Wine Warehouse and if you pick up the wine you will also receive a nice discount.
Avondale is committed to fair and decent living and working conditions for all employees and you can taste this in their wines. Their fresh, luscious yet elegant organic white is named after Jonty's Ducks, a group of ducks that work here as natural pest controllers. Owner Johnathan Grieve employs a "posse" of ducks who patrol the vineyard in search of snails that eat the vines. The ducks are an environmentally friendly way to avoid the use of harmful chemicals and thus serve as the guardians of the
vines on Avondale (see also the video with the duck surveillance)
