Description
Le Crocine is a domain in the Bolgheri wine region and was founded by Niccolò Marzichi Lenzi. The Lenzi family is a prominent family from Florence and Niccolò Marzichi Lenzi's mother is Ilaria Antinori, sister of Piero and Lodovico Antinori . His wife Joy is responsible for the Le Crocine domain. So these top Bolgheri wines also have Antinori roots.
FACT: The wine is named after Joyce's twin sister, Eva. Eva starred in the James Bond film Casino Royale in 2006.
The Cuvée Eva is produced using 100% organically farmed Cabernet Franc from a single vineyard. After sorting the grapes, the whole berries are gravity-fed into small stainless steel vats. The grapes undergo a short cold maceration before fermentation begins naturally, followed by malolactic fermentation. Once both fermentations are complete, the wine is gently moved into new and second-year 225-liter French oak barriques for approximately 8 months. During this time, we move the lees to enrich the wines by doing some “roulade”, which consists of rolling the barrels to move the lees without exposing the wine to extensive oxygenation. The Cuvée Eva is available by allocation only.
The freshness and unique character of Le Crocine Eva come from the "terroir" of this vineyard, which benefits from optimal exposure to sunlight and from what is considered fresh soil, which provides the roots with the necessary humidity in the hot summers, avoiding harmful water stress for the plant and the fruit. These two elements are fundamental to the style of wines that one likes to produce. So do not expect a hard wine or a wine that is too 'jammy' but rather a very elegant balanced wine. Already in its early stage with the wine still in the barrels, this wine stands out for its balance and complexity;
ABOUT LE CROCINE
Bolgheri is located in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci in the Maremma, on the coast of Tuscany. Since the 1970s, Bolgheri has been put on the map for quality through the production of the famous Super Tuscans such as Sassicaia, Tignanello and Ornellaia. Niccolò grew up on a farm in the middle of Tuscany and wine is part of his DNA. The memories of walks with his father through the vineyards and the sound of the fermenting Sangiovese inspired him to make his own wine. After many years of traveling, he returned to his roots to make his dream come true, together with his wife Joy Green. The intense, terroir-driven wines of Le Cro-cine have quickly achieved cult status. Le Crocine produces 4 impressive red cuvées, all with a unique personality and based on the classic great Bordeaux grapes: cabernet (franc and/or sauvignon) and sometimes a bit of merlot - Supertuscans through and through, but with their roots in the Antinori family, that is not surprising.
