Description
This Joseph Faiveley Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru comes from a premier cur vineyard located in the village of Nuits-Saint Georges and this sits smack in the middle of the famous Côte de Nuits AOC, separating the 41 Premier Cru vineyards that the region rich is effective in two groups: north versus south. Wines from the north tend to exhibit bright red fruit and floral aromas and flavors while those from the south offer more black fruit, earth driven, larger tannic wines. This appellation also shares a much-coveted border: across the border, you could have one foot in Vosne-Romanée and one foot in Nuits-Saint-Georges. This Joseph Faiveley Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru has the beautiful fresh light pinot noir color with notes of sweet strawberries with fresh flowers and mandarins in the nose. Medium-bodied with round, firm tannins and a spicy, flavoursome finish. Very typical of the appellation. Drinkable now, but even better in a few years.
About Faiveley
The history of Domaine Faiveley dates back to 1825. Family owned for 7 generations, the domain is located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, in the heart of Burgundy. 127 hectares of vineyards, spread over the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise, of which 12 vineyards with Grand Cru classification, 25 with Premier Cru classification and 6 vineyards with a "Monopole" classification. The estate is managed by Erwan Faiveley, who manages the work in the vineyards in-house to maintain control over the quality of the grapes. The hand-picked harvest is carefully transported to vaulted cellars from the 19th century, located in Nuits-Saint-Georges. To make great Burgundy, Erwan Faiveley combines the principles of modern oenology with traditional aging in French oak barrels. All this contributes to Faiveley wines being highly regarded.

Nuits-St.-Georges Les Pruliers 2014
Score: 93
Release Price: $102
Region: France / Burgundy / Nuits-St.-Georges
Color: Red
Issue: May 31, 2017
Tasting Note
Enticing flavors of smoky black cherry, blackberry and violet are the hallmarks of this suave red. Picks up spice accents as the firm structure asserts itself on the lingering finish. Once the oak is absorbed, this should rock. Best from 2020 through 2035. 16 cases imported. — BS
