The nose is complex and seduces with its garrigue character and aromas of blackberry, blueberry and graphite. The palate is exceptionally elegant, yet precise with plum, redcurrant, very fine-grained tannins and a certain nervousness in the mid-palate, indicating a significant aging potential. The finish is delicate, yet offers length and finesse of fruit. This is a Rich South African Cabernet with power and elegance.
The Franschhoek Cabernet Sauvignon, which contains 4% Cabernet Franc, comes from four separate parcels of land lying side by side on a southwestern aspect of the Franschhoek Valley, where the soil is mainly sandy loam over granite bedrock. The grapes were picked by hand in small boxes, sorted. The grapes underwent cold maceration in traditional concrete vats and were then fermented at temperatures between 27°C and 30°C with frequent pump-overs to extract aromas, color and tannins. After alcoholic fermentation, a long-lasting malolactic fermentation occurred naturally in 225 liter barriques. The wine was aged in French oak from our favorite coopers, Sylvain and Saury
Boekenhoutskloof is a high-profile wine estate in Franschhoek that is particularly impressive in terms of quality. The Boekenhoutskloof was, despite its somewhat unusual African name for the 'French' Franschhoek, founded three centuries ago by French Huguenots. The current winemaker Marc Kent also still has a thing for France. He visits it at least once a year to find new inspiration in the northern Rhone, Cornas. In 2020 Boekenhoutskloof was voted best winery in South Africa by Platter
Fun fact: On the head of the capsule you will find an image of a slender dam. This is Boekenhoutskloof's figurehead and is an adaptation of an early Cape of Good Hope silver mark and she carries the dove of peace and hope. She guards the Boekenhoutskloof and stands for intrinsic quality that stands above all else.
