2018 Strydom Retro Red

The Retro Red from Rianie Strydom is a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cinsault, 9% Merlot and around 3000 bottles are made of this version.

All three varieties were harvested by hand and fermented separately. Pumping and punching twice a day resulted in a gentle extraction of tannins and flavours. The wines finished malo-lactic acid fermentation in stainless steel before maturing in 3rd year oak barrels for 12 months.
All vineyards are planted on a south-westerly slope with 15-20% clay and slate. The region is relatively cool and this makes the Strydom wines fresh and crisp.

In the glass, the Retro has a beautiful dark red color with fresh red and dark fruit (blackberry, blackcurrant), spices and a little vanilla in the nose. This medium bodied wine is juicy with bright mild tannins with a pepper in the aftertaste. This is an excellent cocktail wine and delicious with cubes of mature cheese, meatballs, pasta with meat sauce, fried steak.
