Description
This great Barolo Monvigliero from top winery Paolo Scavino comes from the Monvigliero vineyard of the same name, which can really be considered the "grand cru" of the village of Verduno. The Monvigliero vineyard is therefore the most important vineyard of the northern Italian municipality of Verduno. This cru was first vinified in the 2000 vintage and blended to the Barolo until the 2007 vintage after which this vineyard was bought by the Scavino family and made as a single cru. The vineyard has a soil of predominantly limestone, light colored and mixed with calcareous veins, which is very characteristic of the municipality of Verduno.
The Monvigliero has great finesse and aromatic complexity, is pronounced floral spicy, savory, with balsamic expression in its expression. The wine is a beautiful ruby red in color. The nose is lively and beautifully composed with notes of eucalyptus and violets. Excellent concentrated taste with lots of minerality and firm but pleasant tannins. An extremely elegant cru, feminine and full of character with a slightly fresh aftertaste. This wine goes well with red meats (grilled/roasted), lamb, game fur and cheeses that have a rich and strong flavour.
The Nebbiolo grapes are harvested manually by winery Paolo Scavino during the 1st weeks of October. After maceration and fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in barriques and then a further 12 months in French oak barrels. The wine then ages for another 6-7 months in the bottle.

Paolo Scavino winery is a historic winery in the Italian region of Barolo. It was founded in Castiglione Falletto in 1921 by Lorenzo Scavino and his son Paolo. Agriculture has always been a family tradition and passion of the Scavino family.
Now Enrico Scavino runs the family domain together with his daughters Enrica and Elisa, the 4th generation. He already worked in the winery in 1951 when he was only 10 years old. A young winemaker who has inherited the passion and dedication of his country. Through more than 60 years of experience, his focus has been on investing in Nebbiolo's major cru to demonstrate the uniqueness of each terroir. The working method of this beautiful winery is inspired by the love and respect they have for their terroirs. Their pursuit of purity of expression, complexity and elegance for their wines is also a great source of inspiration. The winery works with the 3 local grapes Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo.
Paolo Scavino winery owns 29 hectares in the Barolo area, and works on 20 historic Barolo crus in Castiglione Falletto, Barolo, La Morra, Novello, Serralunga d'Alba, Verduno and Roddi. The Scavino family stands out for their meticulous care of the vineyards and their passion for the terroir. They focus on the care of the vines in order to grow ripe and healthy grapes. When making the wine, minimal interventions are pursued to preserve the natural diversity of the terroir.
