Description
Diamond Mountain overlooks the town of Calistoga in the northern reaches of Napa Valley and is part of the Mayacamas Mountains that frame the western edge of the valley. Lokoya’s Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon was first made in 1995 and comes from select blocks at three different vineyards: the estate-owned Rhyolite Ridge (1,200 feet) and Wallis Vineyards (1,500 feet), as well as the Andrew Geoffrey Vineyard (1,800 feet). Situated above the fog line, the vineyards experience cooler days and warmer nights with less temperature variation than on the northern valley floor. High elevation, poor soils and a temperate climate produce full-bodied wines with rich black cherry flavors and dark chocolate notes with relatively soft tannins.
The Lokoya Diamond Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged for 22 months in French oak, 93% of which is new. Deep garnet purple in color, the nose explodes with aromas of cherry, black plum and blackberry underpinned by espresso, black olive and bay leaf. The concentrated, full palate is packed with expressive black fruit preserves and savory layers, supported by a firm backbone of grainy tannins and well-woven freshness, finishing on a lingering forest floor scent.

Wijnhuis
Lokoya, Founded in 1995 is a collection of four distinct Cabernet Sauvignons from four of Napa Valley's most celebrated mountain appellations: Mount Veeder, Howell Mountain, Spring Mountain and Diamond Mountain. These limited production wines are 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, fermented with native yeast and bottled unfined and unfiltered, resulting in the purest expression of the terroir. All vineyard locations can shine with the climate, soil and sunlight all fully reflected in the glass.
Given the high location, the vineyards require constant attention. The deep understanding of the vineyard trajectory in each vintage comes from winemaker Christopher Carpenter's years of expertise. Intervention is kept to a minimum, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, allowing the fruit to express itself as naturally and eloquently as possible. At Lokoya they call this MOUNTAIN WINEMAKING.
All wines have the highest possible ratings from international wine critics such as Parker, Wine Spectator and Suckling and are all in the 95-100 region. The wines belong in the list with Harlan and Bond.
Wines from the mountainous slopes of Napa Valley take time to develop and show their full potential. The intense tannin structure and flavor concentration of Lokoya Cabernet Sauvignon provide the optimal profile for aging. These are wines that are intended to lie and mature for 30 years or more.
