Description
Emilio Moro is seen as the example of the winemaker in the Duero's (benchmark producer). The top of Emilio Moro is without a doubt the Clone de la Familia. This wine is only made in good years and of this version a maximum of 1000 bottles are produced and only in the special years. The grapes come from three small vineyards that all have a different terroir, namely clay, lime and stone. The special thing about this top wine is that this wine is produced from the original Tempranillo clone from their old original family vineyard. So all the tempranillo vines of all the wines of Emilio Moro descend from these vines and this also explains the name of the wine: The Clone of the Family.
The wine has been matured for 18 months in new French barriques. The Clone de La Familia is a rich full-bodied modern Ribera del Duero wine. The wine is powerful but also silky-soft. The winemaker José Moro gives this wine the predicate "Honest". In the nose we smell blackberries, liquorice and fennel covered with herbs and smoky notes. In the mouth the wine is medium to full-bodied with fine-grained tannins and a good acidity that ensures that the wine remains very elegant but also powerful. Give the wine some more time and advice is certainly to decant the wine. This is the absolute top from the Ribera del Duero.
Did you know: The wine is sold to importers like us through the Emilio Moro Charity Foundation and the proceeds from this wine go to charity.

Powerful yet very polished, with plush dark spices, walnut husks, chiles, chocolate and rich blackberries. Touches of minerals and charcoal. Round tannins aplenty on the palate, with concentrated flavors and a structured, persistent finish. Goes on for half a minute. Full-bodied and intense, but nothing heavy here. Drink from 2025.

Tasting Note
This big red combines concentration with balance. Cocoa and loamy earth notes frame blackberry, licorice and mineral flavors, giving way to a floral finish that’s long and graceful. Complex now, with the stuffing for the long haul. Drink now through 2031. 123 cases made, 15 cases imported. — TM

Saturated ruby. An expansive, highly perfumed bouquet displays scents of ripe black raspberry, cherry liqueur, incense and candied flowers, and a spicy nuance adds lift. Stains the palate with red and blue fruit preserve, vanilla, exotic spice and lavender pastille flavors, while a spine of tangy acidity provides structure and focus. Gently firming tannins build through the strikingly persistent finish, which repeats the blue fruit, vanilla and floral qualities.

With over 200 hectares of vines in some of Ribera del Duero’s prime areas, this three-generation-old bodega is a big player for high-end wines in the region. The wines are made in a large, pristine and spare-no-expense winery in Pesquera del Duero, in the heart of the DO. This range of bottlings, are emphatically modern, in the best sense, and they age remarkably well. While the presence of oak (mostly French and from the best coopers) in the top, single-vineyard wines can be pronounced when the wines are young, bottle aging tones that down dramatically.

The family business Emilio Moro has been located in Pesquera del Duero since 1892. This bodega boasts a three-generation tradition and includes vineyards over 90 years old. Due to their long history, they have been able to expand their vineyards very specifically with mostly Tinto Fino. The Finca Resalso and Crianza excel in purity, elegance and complexity. The top cuvées are of rare class; the very old vines of these two 'Pagos' give an extremely low yield resulting in very complex wines with a great depth and temperament.
In 1987 Emilio Moro first launched his own wines under his own label. With about 200 hectares of vineyards and a total annual production of 1.5 million bottles, it is a modern and large company. Thanks to its high quality standards and innovative management, it is also one of the leading wine companies. This applies not only in Spain but money worldwide and this is also confirmed that it has been nominated by Wine Enthusiast as Best Winery of the World. Emilio Moro's focus on Research, Development and Innovation is impressive and the enormous focus on quality is certainly an important factor in the high quality of all wines, but let's not forget that the old Emilio Moro vineyards are located in the most beautiful part of the Ribera del Duero with a completely unique and extremely suitable terroir located at a great height. In 2017, Wine Spectator placed the Emilio Moro in 59th place in the Prestigious Top 100 of the world's best wines.
In 2008, Emilio Moro died at the age of 75. In the same year, the Emilio Moro foundation was established, which is committed to providing poor regions of the world with clean drinking water and improving living conditions. Javier & José Moro are now in charge.
The emilio moro portfolio consists of 5 red wines, all of which are made from the regional variant of the Tempranillo (tinto fino). The special thing is that a very old pure clone is used. The vineyards range from 30-90 years old, but even the younger vineyards are from the lots of this unique clone. Emilio moro does not use the terms Crianza or Reserva and the name of the wine stands for the character of the wine.
