Description
A fresh vintage from Burgundy with character, history and the typical finesse of Pinot Noir.
Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron and the history of Les Vignottes
Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron is a well-known name in the Côte de Nuits region. Established in the last century, the family-run estate has long been among the region's top performers. Their vineyards are spread across some of the most beautiful villages, including Nuits-Saint-Georges and Vosne-Romanée. The Les Vignottes vineyard officially belongs to the Côte de Nuits-Villages appellation. A place with its own distinctive signature, where the family has been crafting wines for generations that have a distinct Burgundian feel, yet always retain their own distinctive character.
Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits
The 2023 Les Vignottes is made from 100% Pinot Noir . This grape feels most at home in the Côte de Nuits . The terroir is rich in limestone and clay, which gives the grapes tension and finesse. Pinot Noir is a delicate grape: thin-skinned, sensitive to climate and soil. This makes the wines sometimes capricious, but precisely because of that, also exciting. Here, it produces a wine that is lively, pure, and refined.
Location and terroir of Les Vignottes
Les Vignottes is located just south of Nuits-Saint-Georges. The vineyard benefits from a slightly cooler location, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly. This creates fresh acidity and a beautiful balance between ripe fruit and refinement. The soil consists of a mix of limestone and clay, ideal for Pinot Noir. It gives the wine mineral notes and a long finish.
Production of the 2023 Domaine Jean-Jacques Les Vignottes
In 2023, the wine was traditionally harvested by hand and the grapes were rigorously selected. Fermentation uses natural yeasts to preserve the vineyard's character. Some of the grapes are fermented whole bunches, which adds structure and spice. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, usually with a small percentage of new wood. The result is a refined balance of fruit, oak, and minerality.
Tasting profile of the 2023 Les Vignottes
In the glass, this wine is a bright ruby red. The nose opens with aromas of cherries, raspberries, and a hint of violets. After a gentle swirl, a hint of spice and subtle oak emerges. On the palate, the wine is elegant, with fresh acidity and soft tannins. The fruit lingers, along with a mineral note typical of this region. The 2023 vintage is easy to drink young, but also has the potential to age for several years.

The winery owns almost 13 hectares of vineyard divided over 12 AOCs, all located in the Côte de Nuits. The vines are very old, some more than 90 years. In 1988, Sophie and Alain Meunier-Confuron took over this beautiful family estate. It is undoubtedly one of the best domains in Burgundy. It is Alain Meunier who makes it his life's goal to keep his Burgundy wines at a high level. He sees the vineyards and the grapes as a living thing, something that requires constant attention. Almost unbelievable but it is true that this man performs the work manually as much as possible. As a result, one does not see tractors among his vineyards, but winegrowers on horseback. This is a costly and intensive way of working, but he is convinced that it does have a beneficial effect in the glass. Alain Meunier is a very modest and timid man, but very sympathetic and devoted to his vineyards with all his heart. His wife Sophie, in contrast to her husband, is a lot of liveliness and spontaneity. She takes care of the commercial side and the administration.
In the cellars he combines old methods with the most modern techniques. Some age-old methods have proven their worth, modern techniques allow everything to be refined and better controlled, says the oenologist at Jean-Jacques Confuron. Confuron's wines undergo a traditional red wine-making process. The wines mature in oak casks; for the Grand Cru 80-100% new, for the other wines between 30-50% new. The wines are clarified with proteins, they are not filtered.
