Château La Conseillante 2025 ranks among the absolute highlights of the Bordeaux vintage. In a year marked by heat and drought, La Conseillante manages to preserve precisely what the estate is known for: refinement, aromatic precision, and exceptional freshness. Many connoisseurs already regard this vintage as a future classic for the château. The combination of ripe fruit, floral elegance, tension, and length makes this one of the most complete La Conseillantes of recent years.
La Conseillante: one of the big names of Pomerol
La Conseillante has belonged to the absolute elite of Pomerol for generations. The estate boasts over ten hectares of vineyards on an exceptional terroir of grey clay and sandy gravel soils, situated among some of the appellation's most famous vineyards. It is precisely this combination of soils that creates La Conseillante's distinctive style: velvety textures, refined tannins, and a striking floral signature.
Under the leadership of Marielle Cazaux, the château has undergone an impressive development in quality over the past ten years. The focus is on precision in the vineyard, sustainable viticulture, and increasingly refined vinification. The result is a style that combines power with elegance and is regarded by many enthusiasts as one of the most refined interpretations of Pomerol.
The exceptional circumstances of the 2025 Bordeaux vintage
The 2025 growing season was early, warm, and dry. A mild winter was followed by trouble-free flowering and a summer of prolonged drought and multiple heatwaves. However, thanks to the soil characteristics and careful vineyard management, the vines were able to adapt excellently to these conditions.
Crucial to the final balance were the rain showers at the end of August. These ensured that the grapes could complete their ripening without loss of freshness. The harvest began as early as August 28, making it one of the earliest in the history of the estate.
A notable detail of the 2025 is the return of Cabernet Sauvignon to the Grand Vin blend. Historically, this grape was part of La Conseillante for many years, but this had not been the case since the 1950s. In 2025, Cabernet Sauvignon returns to the final blend for the first time, which, according to many tasters, contributes to the wine's extra tension, freshness, and structure.
How does Château La Conseillante 2025 taste?
The blend consists of 87% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. Immediately after pouring, the wine displays the aromatic refinement for which La Conseillante is famous. Aromas of violets, peonies, blueberries, black cherries, and ripe blackberries are complemented by notes of cocoa, graphite, spices, truffle, and subtle mineral nuances.
On the palate, the combination of richness and freshness stands out. The fruit is ripe and concentrated, yet is supported by lively acidity and remarkable tension. The tannins are silky and extremely precise, making the wine feel both powerful and refined at the same time.
Several tasters speak of a wine that, despite its concentration, comes across as almost weightless. The floral notes remain constantly present and give the wine an elegant signature that is immediately recognizable as La Conseillante. The finish is long, layered, and strikingly saline in character, with notes of dark fruit, flowers, herbs, and a mineral tension that lingers for minutes.
What makes this vintage special is the balance. Although 2025 is reminiscent of warm years like 2022 in terms of weather conditions, this wine possesses extra precision and freshness. It is precisely that combination of power, finesse, and energy that makes it so impressive.
Grape varieties, vinification and aging
The grapes were harvested by hand and vinified separately in temperature-controlled concrete vats. Fermentation took place at relatively low temperatures to preserve aromatic purity to the maximum. The total maceration lasted between 28 and 30 days.
Approximately five percent of the production was vinified as whole clusters. Subsequently, the wine ages for about fifteen months in French oak barrels, seventy percent of which are new. Unlike some previous years, amphorae were not used for this vintage. The choice fell entirely on barrel aging to achieve extra depth and refinement.
When to drink Château La Conseillante 2025?
La Conseillante 2025 combines a seductive accessibility with the structure of a great cellar wine. Thanks to its concentration, fresh acidity, and extremely refined tannins, the wine will develop positively over several decades. Although the wine will be approachable relatively early, its greatest potential clearly lies in the longer term.
Expected drinking window: 2032-2065+.

Parker
(97-100) The 2025 La Conseillante is another brilliant wine in the making for this Pomerol reference point. Wafting from the glass with aromas of ripe mulberries and blackberries mingled with hints of violets and truffle, it's medium- to full-bodied, deep and unctuous, with lively acids, ultra-refined tannins and a long, floral finish. It's a blend of 87% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon (from new plantings that already make it into the blend) that attained 13.5% alcohol. Fermentations were capped at 26 degrees Celsius, the coolest ever, to extract selectively, and the entire production is maturing in barriques this year.

(97-98) Complex already, with blackberry, blueberry, currant and mint aromas that follow through to a medium body with firm tannins and a savory, juicy finish with fresh herbs and an almost rose stem undertone. You can feel the grape skins. Very primary. 87% merlot, 10 cabernet franc and 3% cabernet sauvignon.

Vinous
(96-98) The 2025 La Conseillante is shaping up to be magnificent. Rich and luscious in the glass, the 2025 offers up an exotic mélange of inky dark fruit, cloves, new leather, licorice and mocha. This is the first vintage that sees the return of Cabernet Sauvignon, historically a part of the blend from at least 1871 to 1956, when frost devastated many vineyards in Pomerol. The 2025 is impressively deep, but also quite vibrant. I can't wait to see how it ages. It's a superb effort from Technical Director Marielle Cazaux and her team. Cazaux made an immediate impact when she arrived in 2015, starting with a move to lower-intervention farming that was immediately apparent. I will have more to say about that and other related subjects in a separate article we will publish later in the year. Tasted two times. Drinking Window: 2035 - 2065.

(95-97) The 2025 La Conseillante was cropped at 30 hl/ha and is matured in 70% new oak barrels, there are no amphoras this year as Marielle Cazaux felt the wine needed the micro-oxygenation. It has a very pure nose with black cherries, blueberry and wild strawberry fruit, just a little Burgundy-like in style. A hint of orange rind loiters in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins, a silver thread of acidity, quite linear and strict on the entry, gentle grip with a dash of black pepper towards the finish. A second glass that happened to have been opened for an hour revealed some of its opulence that will surely be enhanced during the élevage. It will deserve four to five years in bottle but will have a long life ahead and will give a lot of pleasure. Drinking Window: 2032 - 2055.
- By Neal Martin on May 2026
“Pomerol is the driest appellation,” Marielle Cazaux told me. “The storms went to either side of the appellation. But we had good rainfall on August 20 with 26 mm. I almost cried with happiness. From Easter until then, we had virtually no rain! Consequently, the berries remained small, and I could see the similarities with 2022. From August 10 to 16, the vines really stopped, and this stagnated sugar accumulation, creating a ‘paradox wine’—solar and cold. If you examine analytical figures, it is like 2005. We had a day of cleaning up the vines, and then the real harvest began on September 2, without any desiccated berries. We finished picking the Merlot three days later, and the Cabernet Franc was picked on September 17. For the first time since 1956 [a year of the devastating frosts], we have 3% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend.”

Château La Conseillante
Located in Pomerol, Château La Conseillante has a rich history dating back to the 18th century. The name "La Conseillante" refers to the influential merchant Catherine Conseillan, who bought and expanded the estate. In 1871, it became the property of the Nicolas family, who have managed the vineyard with care for generations since.
Vineyard and Terroir
The La Conseillante vineyard covers 12 hectares and is located on both the Pomerol plateau and in the Saint-Émilion appellation. The soil consists of a mix of clay and gravel, with sub-soils rich in iron oxide. This unique terroir is ideal for growing Merlot and Cabernet Franc, which combine to produce wines with a smooth, creamy texture and distinctive power.
Environment
Since 2016, La Conseillante has taken significant steps to reduce their environmental impact. The estate has achieved ISO 14001 and HVE 3 certifications, which means they have high standards in the areas of biodiversity, disease control, and fertilizer and water management. They use more than 80% organic and/or biocontrol products and apply biodynamic agriculture and phytotherapy.
Vinification and Wine Styles
The wines of La Conseillante are characterized by their finesse, balance and silky texture. The vinification takes place in 22 concrete barrels, each corresponding to a specific plot. The wines are aged in 70% new oak barrels, 27% second-year barrels and 3% in amphoras. This approach ensures optimal expression of the terroir and a refined taste.
