Description
The Tenuta Degli Dei estate has been in the Cavalli family since the 1970s. Around the year 2000, the son of fashion guru Roberto Cavalli, Tomasso Cavalli, decided to transform the estate in the heart of Chianti (Tuscany) into a quality wine estate. Tenuta Degli Dei is located in the village of San Leoline, near Panzano. The vineyards are located in the well-known Conca d'Oro valley. This is extremely suitable for wine growing thanks to the soil and its unique orientation to sunlight.
In 2010, the domain was expanded with the purchase of a Chianti Classico vineyard where only Sangiovese grapes are grown. In 2013, the first wine from this will be on the market and it is completely in the style of the house. Tomasso gets help for making his wine from Gioia Cresti and Carlo Ferrini. Two winemakers who have been working together since 1998 and who have made their name for themselves for some time now. The soil is a mixture of marl and clay. In addition to Sangiovese, the French varieties Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Alicante Bouschet have been planted. Tenuta Degli Dei has planted the grape vines at an altitude of 350 to 400 meters, ideal because the Sangiovese grapes get a lot of sun hours but also the coolness of the night. This naturally produces a full, powerful wine with a lot of softness.
The Cavalli is a great supertuscan. The Tenuta degli Dei Cavalli has a base of Cabernet Sauvignon blended with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot and is a great dinner wine. The wine is aged for 18 months in oak and another 18 months in bottle. On the nose we smell notes of herbs and black fruits, bay leaves, berries, licorice and leather. On the palate the wine is full bodied with soft tannins. The finish is layered, rich and lush. The Cavalli Supertuscan has received high ratings from Wine Spectator, Parker and Suckling
