The 2016 Camille Giroud Corton Grand Cru Clos du Roi comes from the vineyard 'Clos du Roi', located on the hillside of Corton in the Côte de Beaune. 'Clos du Roi' is one of the most appreciated climats within the Corton Grand Cru appellation. The vineyard has an eastern exposure and soils rich in limestone and clay, which contribute to the complexity and structure of the wine. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted. After a soft pressing, the juice undergoes fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged for 15 months in French oak barrels, of which approximately 30% is new wood. This maturation takes place on fine lees without bâtonnage (stirring of the lees), which contributes to the development of complex aromas and a refined texture.

On the nose, the Camille Giroud Corton Grand Cru 'Le Clos du Roi' offers aromas of ripe black fruit, such as cherries and blackberries, complemented by earthy notes and a hint of wet stones, characteristic of the wild character of Corton. On the palate, the wine is concentrated with supple and round tannins, and a clear minerality leading to a fresh and pronounced finish. This wine has excellent ageing potential. Although it is already accessible at a young age, it will continue to evolve and gain complexity with a few years of bottle ageing.

The 2016 Camille Giroud Corton Grand Cru Clos du Roi pairs well with dishes such as red meat, saddle of hare, beef bourguignon, game stews and mature cheeses. The recommended serving temperature is around 14°C.

About Corton Grand Cru

The Corton Grand Cru appellation is a prestigious vineyard in Burgundy and the only Grand Cru for red wine in the Côte de Beaune. Situated on the famous hill of Corton, it covers vineyards in the villages of Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix-Serrigny and Pernand-Vergelesses. This appellation is known for both its powerful red wines and its refined white wines, although red wine is the most common here.

About Maison Camille Giroud

Founded in 1865 and located in Beaune, Maison Camille Giroud is a renowned winery in Burgundy. The house is known for its production of traditional wines with great ageing potential. In the 1990s, Camille Giroud began purchasing grapes and acquired several vineyards in the Côte de Beaune, with appellations ranging from village to Grand Cru. The winery strives to accurately reflect the diversity of Burgundy's terroirs, focusing on both the style of the vintage and the unique characteristics of each terroir. Today, Camille Giroud produces around 30 different appellations per vintage, of which 80% are red and 20% are white wines.
With a limited production of around 50,000 bottles per year, the house continues to focus on quality and authenticity. In recent years, the winery has gained new momentum with the appointment of winemaker Carel Voorhuis, who uses his passion for Burgundy and his expertise to further shape Camille Giroud's ambitions.
