Description
One family: Antinori, one passion: Wine. Brothers Piero and Lodovico Antinori are the owners of the beautiful Tenuta di Biserna in Tocane. According to Parker: "Tenuta di Biserno remains one of the best kept secrets in Bolgheri". The Biserno is named after the winery because the wine reflects the terroir and microclimate of the area around the winery. A nice way to name your wine. Only the best grapes are selected for the blend, resulting in a wine of depth, intensity, complexity, durability and elegance.
The Biserno Lodovico is the top model of Bisern and is After the harvest the grapes are destemmed. Fermentation takes place for 3 to 4 weeks in stainless steel barrels at 28 degrees. Then the malolactic fermentation takes place, 80% in wood and the rest in stainless steel. The wine then matures for 16 months in new French oak barrels, after which it matures for another year in the bottle. The wine is only made in the special top years (2007, 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015).
The Lodovico vineyard is a six-hectare parcel within the larger Bellaria vineyard (which produces Biserno wine) on this important estate in Bibbona on the coast of Tuscany. The entire vineyard is planted with Bordeaux grapes Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. The vines were planted in 2002, at a density of 6,500 vines per hectare (2,361/acre). From research and experience, the vineyards have shown a unique microclimate for the production of the exceptionally high quality Cabernet Franc and Merlot grapes. Lodovico is the absolute top wine of the Tenuta di Biserno estate. Lodovico is only available in very limited quantities. Only 8,000 bottles were produced in total.
Ruby red wine with granite glints. The bouquet, after decanting the wine, is overwhelming, beautiful hints of Mediterranean herbs and flowers can be discovered, complemented by the scents of dark chocolate, liquorice, black cherries and spices. The taste is opulent, with deep fruit of blackcurrants and dark forest fruits. The intensity of the wine is exceptional, with fresh acidity and ripe tannins in the beautiful long-lasting aftertaste.

In 1995, Lodovico Antinori discovered the potential of an area on the outskirts of Bolgheri for viticulture. After an evaluation, he saw the unique characteristics of this area and was convinced that he could create something new and unique in the wine world. A few years later, the Antinori family (Piero, Lodovico, Ilaria and his son Niccolò) and landowner Umberto Mannoni started founding Tenuta di Biserno. Adjacent to the historic village of Bolgheri, with a beautiful view of the Tyrrhenian sea.
The Tuscan winery has 49 hectares of estate and is located in Alta Maremma in western Tuscany between the hills of Bibbona. Due to the specific soil and climate characteristics, the area is divided into two zones. The Bolgheri area has a subsoil of rock; on these 40 hectares, the vines for Biserno and Il Pino di Biserno are planted. The vines planted on the vineyards are mainly Cabernet Franc and Merlot and in smaller quantities Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Tenuta Campo di Sasso, on the other hand, has 56 hectares with mixed (and mainly) sandy soils. This area is close to the sea and is therefore very suitable for varieties such as Syrah and Vermentino. Occhione and Insoglio del Cinghiale come from this area.
