The Château Latour is one of the most famous wine estates in the world. It is located in Bordeaux in Pauillac. It is located on the border with the Saint-Julien wine region. Château Latour is classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé according to the Bordeaux wine classification system of 1855. The winery covers 60 hectares and grows approximately 78% cabernet sauvignon, 17% merlot and some cabernet franc and petit verdot.
This is a so-called Late Release from Chateau Latour - The wine has never left the Château before, and has been stored in the cellars of the Château under the best possible conditions for almost 8 years. The year of release is stated on each bottle with a special back label. The 2009 only came onto the market in 2018.
Deep garnet in color, the 2009 Latour is youthful with bold aromas of blackcurrant, black cherry and warm plum, plus nuances of cedarwood, anise, meat juices, truffles and tapenade with a hint of churned black earth. Full, concentrated and powerful on the palate, it has a very strong frame of super ripe, grainy tannins and fantastic freshness, with a very long and wonderfully mineral finish. Still in its infancy—this wine takes time!. This is a so-called Late Release from Chateau Latour - the wine is then released again years later from the cellars of Latour 100/100 Parker and Suckling.

Deep garnet colored, the 2009 Latour is unashamedly youthful with bold blackcurrants, black cherries and warm plums notes plus nuances of cedar chest, aniseed, beef drippings, truffles and tapenade with a waft of tilled black soil. Full, concentrated and powerful in the mouth, it has a rock-solid frame of super ripe, grainy tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing very long and wonderfully minerally. Just a baby—this needs time!

The 2009 Latour is endowed with a simply magnificent nose with intense blackberry and cassis fruit laced with minerals and graphite, extremely focused to the point of overwhelming the sense. Wow. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin, multilayered black fruit infused with crushed stone and a hint of white pepper, though it clams up towards the finish as if to say, not yet. Outstanding. This is Latour firing on all cylinders. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting.

The 2009 Latour is very classic in style with black fruit, undergrowth, cedar, graphite and smoke, although I find at the moment, the 2009 Mouton-Rothschild has a tad more complexity. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a fine line of acidity, linear and focused, more controlled than Mouton-Rothschild but determined to exert its own terroir over the imprimatur of the growing season. This is an outstanding Latour with ineffable depth and breeding, but the 2010 Latour might well turn out better. Tasted at BI Wines & Spirits' Ten Year On tasting.

History
Château Latour has played an important role in the history of the region. Throughout the centuries, many old documents about this winery have been preserved in the archives. This unique heritage shows extraordinary stability and continuity in the estate and those who have worked there throughout Latour's long history, which has undoubtedly been an important factor in the exceptional regularity and quality of the wines.
The oldest document with the mention Latour dates from 1331 and is an authorization given by Lord Pons to Gaucelme de Castillon to build a fortified tower in the parish of Saint Maubert. Château Latour then appears in 1378 in Jean Froissart's "Chronicles". This was the time of the 100 Years' War. The "Tour de Saint Maubert" was a fortress to guard the estuary, manned by Breton soldiers for the King of France. After a three-day siege, the Anglo-Gascon army seized the fort and installed a garrison.
