Description
A tribute to traditional Amarone
Bolla's Le Origini Amarone Riserva is one of the most classic interpretations of Amarone della Valpolicella. With the 2011 vintage, Bolla presents a powerful wine available exclusively in magnum bottles. Designed for storing and serving on special occasions, this wine embodies the deep, rich style of Amarone as it was originally intended.
Valpolicella Classico: location and grapes
The grapes come from the historic heart of Valpolicella Classico, where the rolling hills and chalky soils impart concentration and finesse. The blend consists of the traditional grape varieties Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella. Only the finest bunches are selected and then dried on reed mats for three to four months, a process that concentrates the sugar and flavor.
Vinification and maturation
After the appassimento, slow fermentation follows, after which the wine matures for a full 18 months in large wooden barrels. It then rests in the bottle for several more years to further develop its complexity. Only the finest barrels are bottled as Le Origini Riserva – and only in magnum format, guaranteeing slower aging and refinement.
Color, odor and flavor profile
This Amarone reveals itself in the glass as a deep garnet red with ruby highlights. The aroma is intense and layered, with notes of black cherries, prunes, dark chocolate, spices, balsamic vinegar, licorice, and a hint of tobacco.
On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, concentrated, and velvety smooth. Ripe black fruit, warm spices, cocoa, and lightly toasted notes complete the palate. The structure is powerful, with firm yet rounded tannins, lovely fresh acidity, and a long, warming finish. Everything is perfectly balanced, with an elegant development in the glass. This is a magnum edition in OWC1 – even more delicious, festive, and with a longer drinking window.

Professional Reviews
8.5
“Denk aan zoete kersen, melkchocola, nootjes, likeur, krenten, gefruite paddenstoelen, een tabakszweem, vijgen en rozijnen, en u bent een aardig eind op streek. De wijn zelf is dat ook overigens. Lang wegleggen strekt niet tot aanbeveling”. Harold Hamersma in De Grote Hamersma, beoordeeld met een 8,5.

Wijnhuis
The story of the Bolla winery starts with one man, Abele Bolla. He lives in the north of Italy, in the Veneto region, where he runs a small family inn. In order to offer his guests more than just a stay, he decided in 1893 to produce a wine that he could serve to his guests. This Soave is a light yellow, fresh, aromatic wine, which reflects the essence of the Veneto area. The demand for this wine grows as more and more people taste its wine. As a result, the family decided to fully focus on wine production. More than 130 years later, the Bolla winery has grown into a world-renowned winery with a wide range of wines. What has remained is the unique taste of the Bolla wines resulting from the special climate and terroir of the Veneto area.
Oenologist Christian Zulian has been a winemaker at Bolla since 2015. Before joining Bolla he worked for Marchesi Antinori for thirteen years and at Domaine Baron de Rothschild for several years.
