Description
The 2007 Champagne Jacques Selosse Millésime Extra Brut Grand Cru is an exceptional and rare vintage champagne from one of the most iconic and innovative producers in the Champagne region Jacques Selosse. This wine combines the unique philosophy of Anselme Selosse with the special characteristics of the 2007 vintage.
Jacques Selosse is based in Avize, in the Côte des Blancs, this house is known for its groundbreaking and terroir-driven approach. Anselme Selosse, the visionary winemaker, introduced principles of biodynamics, low dosages, and a Burgundy-like focus on terroir, which revolutionized the world of champagne. Selosse makes champagnes that are rich, complex and intense, with a unique emphasis on texture and depth. They reflect both the vineyard and the vision of the winemaker. The 2007 vintages are known for their precision, freshness and minerality, often combined with a subtle ripeness.
The Jacques Selosse Millésime Extra Brut Champagne Grand Cru is a blend of Chardonnay (from Avize, a Grand Cru commune) and possibly a small amount of Pinot Noir. The grapes come from Grand Cru vineyards with chalky soils, which give the wine a pronounced minerality. Fermentation takes place in old Burgundy barrels, which gives the wine a subtle oxidative style. The malolactic fermentation is usually suppressed to preserve the freshness and tension in the wine.
The wine is matured on the lees (dead yeast cells) for added complexity. The Dosage is Extra Brut, with a very low sugar content (usually around 2-3 g/l), emphasising the purity of the wine.
Tasting notes
Colour: Deep golden hue, a characteristic of Selosse champagnes and their maturation in oak barrels.
Nose: Complex and layered, with aromas of toasted nuts, brioche, ripe stone fruit (peach, apricot), honey, citrus, spices, and a hint of salty minerality.
Taste: Rich and intense, with a full body. Flavours of toasted almonds, candied lemon, ripe apple, and a savoury, almost umami undertone. The lively acidity and pronounced minerality provide a perfect balance.
Finish: Long and complex, with lingering notes of hazelnuts, citrus and chalky minerality.
FACT : The wine is in our conditioned Wine Warehouse and if you come to pick up the wine you will often also receive a nice discount. From: The 2019 Champagne Summer Preview (Jul 2019)
The 2007 Extra-Brut Millesime Grand Cru represents a major stylistic and generational shift at Selosse, as it is the first vintage Champagne Guillaume Selosse made with a vision of using the best parcels across the entire estate, rather than focusing on the best lieu-dits in Avize, as his father did. The 2007 is powerful, ample and resonant, with plenty of textural intensity from the 30% Pinot in the blend. Beautifully balanced, with striking transparency as well as nuance, the 2007 is a total knock-out. Dosage is 2 grams per liter.

This is a positively stunning set of wines from Anselme and Guillaume Selosse. I have a hard time thinking about another tasting here in which so many wines were at such a stratospheric level. For starters, the Initiale, Version Originale (V.O.) and Rosé are all elevated by the quality of the 2013 vintage on which they are based. The 2012 lieux-dits capture all of the intensity and richness of the year, while the 2007 Vintage marks a transition to Guillaume Selosse’s stewardship. I can’t say much except to reiterate just how compelling and utterly singular these Champagnes are.
