Gamay
Gamay
The Gamay grape, or the Gamay Noir à jus blanc as its official name is, is the grape of the French wine region of Beaujolais. The grape has a purple color, is used for red wines, and has been around since the 14th century. It is thought that the grape first appeared in 1360 in the village of Gamay south of Beaune. The inhabitants of this village were happy with the grape variety after the plague struck. The Gamay grape had matured two weeks earlier than the Pinot Noir and was less difficult to grow. In addition, the Gamay grape gave a stronger and fruity wine.
