Bianco di Alessano
Bianco di Alessano
The Bianco d'Alessano is a white grape from Puglia (The 'heel' of Italy) and it can thrive in poor soils. It has been growing there since ancient times as well as in Calabria. It is therefore perfectly suited to the dry areas of the hills of the Valle d'Itria. The majority of the plantings of Bianco d'Alessano are in Puglia, specifically in the province of Taranto. Here, the grape is usually blended with Verdeca in the Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) wines of Gravina, Lizzano, Locorotondo, Martina Franca and Ostuni. The grape also has a long history as a grape variety in vermouth production.
