Alto Adige is one of the smallest wine growing regions in Italy. But thanks to its geographic location, it is also one of the most versatile. What emerges here are not trendy wines, but authentic wines with their own character instead.
Alto Adige is located right below Austria at the top of Italy, in a "Y" -shaped glacial valley. Before planes were invented, this small valley was the main passage between Italy and the rest of Europe.

Vineyards in Alto Adige creep in horizontal rows along the flanks of glacial valleys. The wine estates here are commonly referred to as "Schloss", which is the German word for castle or chateau. Alto Adige is quite small at only 13,000 hectares, but the region varies enough to have 7 different growing sub-regions. The city of Bolzano is smack in the center of Alto Adige and has some of the most amazing landscapes.
Despite its modest size, the Alto Adige wine-growing region offers a remarkable spectrum of grape varieties. And it is not only the native vines of Lagrein and Schiava (Vernatsch) that have established themselves with a special fondness for the Alto Adige terroir. In addition to them, many other noble, vibrant and powerful red and white wines thrive, revealing their distinct aromas among snow-capped peaks and Mediterranean cypresses. The character of the wine varieties is perfected by winemakers with their skill and special instinct; causing an international sensation with their high level of quality.
