At Geografico, every vineyard coming under management is evaluated by the geologist and the vineyard specialist. They provide advice on the best grape varieties and rootstocks. Subsequently, they assist the owner with vineyard layout and provide ongoing vineyard management. An expert winemaking team produces the wine. Finally, there are state-of-the-art bottling lines. This philosophy of quality is combined with a focus on the terroir: the grapes for the higher-end wines consistently come from a single vineyard and are therefore named after their estate. The wines are produced in a classic manner with minimal intervention in the vinification process. This results in honest, pleasant-drinking wines that are also competitively priced.

San Gimignano is the 'Manhattan of the Middle Ages' and a wondrously beautiful place, but it is also an appellation where unique wines are made from Vernaccia di San Gimignano, including a dry white wine produced exclusively in the Italian municipality of San Gimignano in the Tuscany region. The DOCG Vernaccia di San Gimignano was Italy's very first DOC; it was established in 1966. In 1993, this appellation was promoted to the DOCG status it still holds today. At least 85% of the grapes used for the wine must be Vernaccia, and this Geografico Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a 100% Vernaccia.

In the glass, the wine is light yellow, with an elegant and aromatic nose featuring plenty of white fruit and some spices. On the palate, it is surprisingly fresh and fruity, with good structure and a slight bitterness that gives the wine power. Simply a delightful glass of wine.

WINE AND FOOD SUGGESTIONS

  • Bruschetta with tomato and basil
The fresh acidity of the Vernaccia pairs beautifully with the juicy tomato and the spiciness of the basil.

  • Grilled zucchini with lemon and olive oil
The mineral notes of the wine pair well with grilled vegetables, while lemon emphasizes the fresh side of the wine.

  • Salad with fennel, orange and walnuts
The combination of anise-like fennel, fresh citrus, and nutty walnuts complements the fresh and slightly spicy character of Vernaccia perfectly.

  • Spaghetti vongole (with clams)
The briny clams and garlic pair beautifully with the crisp acidity and light bitterness of the wine.

The company 'Agricoltori del Chianti Geografico' was founded in 1961. It was a cooperative that has since been taken over by Piccini. At Geografico, each vineyard that comes under management is evaluated by the geologist and the vineyard specialist. They give advice on the best grape varieties and rootstocks. They then assist the owner in setting up the vineyard and constantly in vineyard management. An expert winemaker team makes the wine. Finally, there are state of the art bottling lines. This quality philosophy is combined with terroir-orientation: the grapes for the higher wines always come from one vineyard and are therefore named after their domain. The wines are produced in a classical way with little intervention in the vinification process. This results in honest wines, pleasantly drinkable wines, which are also competitively priced.
