Description
The vineyards are situated at an altitude of 350 meters on sheltered terraces. The soil consists primarily of clay and limestone. The cuvée is blended from Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah, and Rolle. Rolle is the same grape variety as the Vermentino, which is popular in Italy. Ten percent of the wine was aged in old wooden barrels to give it character and creaminess. The grapes are hand-harvested in 35kg crates. At the château, the grapes are selected and given a very mild pressing, and even for the Miraval Blanc, only free-flowing juice is used.
The Miraval Provence Rosé is made from organically grown grapes. The wine is a blend of primarily Grenache with a small amount of Cinsault, Syrah, and Rolle. The Miraval Rosé is a very lively rosé with concentrated flavors. This Miraval Rosé is the estate's finest rosé (made by the top-notch team at Château Beaucastel). The light pink-colored Côtes de Provence Miraval Rosé has a fresh and vibrant bouquet of wild strawberries, raspberries, and white flowers, and offers a smooth, silky palate with a fine structure and beautiful mandarin and peach nuances. The finish boasts fruity berry notes. After one sip, the next is hard to resist. An absolutely superb rosé that has also been awarded an impressive 90 Parker points (vintage 2018).
Now, the renowned wine magazine Wine Spectator has ranked Pitt and Jolie's Provence Rosé Miraval at number 84 on its 100 best wines of 2013. The jury's report describes the wine as "elegant" with "pure and concentrated flavors of dried red currant, mandarin, and melon." The names behind this rosé have certainly contributed to its rise to popularity, but it's fair to say that this is a truly top-notch rosé, ranking in the top league alongside Château Camparnaud, Domaine Ott, Château D'Esclans, and Minuty.
The Miraval is a wonderful aperitif but also pairs perfectly with lobster, shellfish, white pasta dishes, or a delicious salad. It's highly recommended with sushi or spicy food. Gone are the days when rosé was only enjoyed in the summer, because wines like those at Domaines Ott and Château Camparnaud are serious, year-round wines that are certainly perfect for gastronomy.
From 1970 onwards, Château Miraval belonged to Jacques Loussier, a jazz pianist and wine enthusiast. He produced the Miraval rosé under the Pink Floyd brand. A few years ago, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt leased Château Miraval for three years. The Hollywood couple purchased the château in 2008. The wine cellar dates back to the early 19th century and was renovated in the 1990s; the wooden barrels rest in the cellar of the original farmhouse (around 1300), which was completely renovated in 1995. The vineyards surrounding the château are situated on a slope at an altitude of 350 meters, which gives the Miraval wines their elegance and refinement. The rosé is the result of a collaboration between the Hollywood couple and the respected Perrin family, one of the largest and most successful wine families in the world. They are particularly renowned for their world-class Château de Beaucastel estate on the Rhône. This is where art and knowledge converge. And that's precisely what Jolie-Pitt & Perrin's wines reflect. Together, they have ambitious plans for the future of organic winemaking.

Bottled just a few weeks before my visit, Miraval's 2018 Cotes de Provence Rose was in fine form. A blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Cinsault, 10% Syrah and 10% Rolle, it boasts floral and melon aromas, while on the palate, it's medium-bodied, plump and fleshy, with a zesty, tangerine-tinged finish.
After initialing and signing a six-page nondisclosure agreement under the eye of a security guard who may or may not have been ex-special forces (I can neither confirm nor deny that), I'm not sure exactly what I can tell you about this wonderful property. Since my last visit, close to ten years ago (pre Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie), the vineyards have been completely renovated, with some sections uprooted and replanted, new parcels developed or under development, and the winery interior has been drastically redone. Marc Perrin made the drive over from his office at Château de Beaucastel to show me around and taste through the wines. When fully developed, he said, there will be approximately 80 to 90 hectares of vines on the property's 800 hectares, leaving a lot of native forest as a buffer. That forest means a healthy population of wild boars, which need to be controlled through hunting and electric fences. Perrin's excitement as we toured the property was palpable. "It's a little bit like when we started Tablas Creek," he said. "A new experience." Although the rosé market has been growing rapidly in the past few years, he said he thinks it's just the beginning, as it has yet to catch on in Asia. There are three different rosés: Studio, from purchased grapes grown closer to the sea; the main rosé, from a mix of estate grapes and purchased fruit from neighbors; and Muse, a new, limited-production wine only from estate fruit. There's a bit of estate-grown white wine as well and an impressive Syrah grown on steep terraces. Perrin says there are no plans to commercialize the red at this time, so you'll just have to work your Hollywood connections to wangle an invitation from the celebrity owners.

Château Miraval is the rock star among the vineyards of Provence. That is not only due to the image of the winery, in which the Hollywood stars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt live with their families.
"Sting" and "The Cranberries" were already guests in the recording studio in the house. But the highlight is the creation of the song “The Wall” by Pink Floyd at Château Miraval! The Perrin winemaker family, itself a star in the international wine industry, is an important part of this because of its excellent wine. The winemaker Marc Perrin is responsible for the wines at the Château Miraval, while the Jolie-Pitt family provides the necessary prestige.
The climate in which Château Miraval is located is Mediterranean, the grapes grow here at an altitude of 350 meters on protected, landscaped terraces. Warm, sunny weather during the day, alternates with cool nights, giving the grapes a lot of freshness and balance. The terroir is influenced by clay and lime, which provide the plants with water on one side and drains abundant water on the other, thus producing healthy, ripened grapes.
The Château Miraval and the surrounding village of Correns are the first “organic village” in all of France. In the meanwhile world-famous rosé from Château Miraval, a Blend of Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah and Rolle is made. For the creamy content of the Rosé wine from Château Miraval, 10% of the wine is aged in old wooden barrels. A fruity, very convincing taste and concept rosé wine, in which creativity and beauty can come together in a gentle elegance. It is not always successful when a famous person or family commits to a wine, although there are many good examples (just think of Bocelli with his wines), but in the case of Miraval, the wine was already of top quality before Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt bought the domain and luckily they also left the making of the beautiful Miraval Rose and Miraval Blanc to the experts. Both the Miraval rose and the white wine version of the Miraval are among the top of the Provence wines. The problem is that the worldwide demand for the Miraval rose is unprecedentedly large and that wine estate certainly cannot meet the demand, so supply is certainly limited and advice is to store this in time. We had periods with a nice early spring when the Miraval rosé was already sold out in May.
