A FIRST - EXPECTED SPRING 2028
The 2025 Château Latour à Pomerol is one of the estate's strongest editions of recent years. This classic Pomerol combines the charm and accessibility of Merlot with striking precision and structure. The result is a wine that immediately seduces with its fruit and elegance, yet possesses sufficient depth to age for years.
Winery Château Latour à Pomerol
Château Latour à Pomerol belongs to the exclusive portfolio of Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix and has been regarded for decades as one of the most reliable addresses in the appellation. The relatively small estate possesses several excellently situated plots on the classic gravel and clay soils of Pomerol. Unlike some of its more powerful neighbors, Latour à Pomerol is often known for its refinement, balance, and accessibility. More information about this winery can be found under the Winery tab.
The wine and blend
The 2025 Château Latour à Pomerol is made from 100% Merlot sourced from just eight hectares of vineyard. The grapes benefit from a combination of gravel and clay soils that provide both aromatic finesse and structure and depth.
Terroir and vintage 2025
The vineyards are situated on a classic Pomerol terroir where gravel provides drainage and aromatic refinement, while the clay retains water reserves during warm periods. In the dry and sunny 2025 vintage, this proved to be a significant advantage. The old Merlot vines retained sufficient freshness and balance, ensuring that the wine never becomes heavy or sluggish despite its ripeness.
The vintage here yields a wine with a beautiful combination of concentration, precision, and tension. Several critics highlight the pure fruit expression and the harmonious structure that characterize this edition.
Vinification and aging
After careful selection, the grapes are vinified traditionally to preserve the pure expression of Merlot. The wine then ages for twelve months in French oak barrels, approximately 50% of which are new. This aging imparts extra depth and complexity without overpowering the fruit.
Color, smell and taste
Deep ruby red in color. The nose opens with aromas of ripe cherries, dark red fruit, and sweet forest fruits, complemented by floral notes of petals and dried flowers. As the wine opens up, nuances of mocha, spices, leather, and subtle oak influences emerge.
On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with a silky texture. The ripe Merlot provides a juicy core of cherries, plums, and dark fruit, supported by refined tannins and fresh acidity. The wine combines charm with structure and displays beautiful precision on the mid-palate. The finish is long, harmonious, and elegant, with refined spiciness and persistent fruit notes.
Summary of professional reviews
William Kelley (The Wine Advocate, 93-95 points) calls the 2025 one of the best vintages of Château Latour à Pomerol in recent years. He praises the combination of cherry fruit, flowers, spices, ripe tannins, and the seamless structure. Jacobo García Andrade awards 95-96 points and emphasizes the precision, focus, and balance between structure and charm. Antonio Galloni (91-93 points) describes the wine as rich, seductive, and particularly tasty, with notes of ripe red fruit, mocha, leather, and dried flowers. The general consensus is that 2025 delivers a very successful and classic Latour à Pomerol.

The 2021 Latour à Pomerol delivers a strong showing in bottle, unwinding in the glass to reveal aromas of minty dark berries, licorice, violets and pencil shavings, followed by a medium-bodied, fleshy and suave palate with good depth at the core, lively acids and powdery tannins that have integrated well with élevage.

Plum stones, walnuts, orange rind and dried flowers on the nose. Some mocha and nutmeg. It’s medium- to full-bodied, polished and fragrant, with layers of spiced fruit framed by tight, very fine tannins. Long and evolving. Best from 2026.

From: 2+2=5: Bordeaux 2021 In Bottle (Feb 2024)
The 2021 Latour à Pomerol has manifested a little more refinement on the nose since I tasted it from barrel. It is not exceptionally complex, but there is definition and focus, revealing a mixture of red and black fruit with rosemary and thyme that emerge with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with silky tannins and a keen line of acidity, quite structured with admirable cohesion toward the finish. This has more finesse than expected and after its low-key entry, there is a sense of flourish on the finish.

From: 2021 Bordeaux: L’Enfant Terrible (Feb 2024)
The 2021 Latour à Pomerol offers good up-front appeal. Sweet red cherry, kirsch, cinnamon, orange peel, new leather and cedar are front and center. The 2021 is an attractive Latour à Pomerol, even if it loses some persistence on the mid-palate and finish.

From: 2021 Bordeaux En Primeur: Back to Classicism (May 2022)
The 2021 Latour à Pomerol is a very beautiful and promising wine. As always, Latour à Pomerol has a distinctive classical strictness to it, and yet the 2021 has just enough mid-palate pliancy to pull it off. Sweet red cherry fruit, blood orange, spice, menthol and dried flowers all grace this very promising, elegant Pomerol.

From: Enticingly Fallible: Bordeaux 2021 En Primeur (May 2022)
The 2021 Latour à Pomerol was picked 23 September to 1 October. Recent vintages have been a tad inconsistent, though I appreciate the aromatics here, cohesive with black cherries, kirsch and maybe just a very slight VA element giving it a kick. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, velvety smooth with modest depth. What is missing is a crescendo on the finish, an instrument restricted to the same few notes. Structured and linear on the finish. Not bad…but give me more (please).
