The 2025 Tenuta Campo di Sasso Occhione Toscana Vermentino IGT Magnum Special Edition Painted Bottle is an extremely rare collector's edition of Tenuta Campo di Sasso's only white wine. This special magnum is presented as a Special Edition Painted Bottle and is produced in very limited quantities. Furthermore, the larger bottle capacity ensures slower maturation, allowing the wine to develop into an even more refined and complex wine. An exclusive release for collectors and enthusiasts of exceptional Tuscan wines.

Tenuta Campo di Sasso

Tenuta Campo di Sasso is part of Tenuta di Biserno, the prestigious Tuscan estate of Lodovico Antinori, one of the founders of modern Super Tuscans. The vineyards are located in Bibbona, directly north of Bolgheri, where the combination of Mediterranean influences, cooling from the Tyrrhenian Sea, and sandy and gravelly soils produces elegant wines with great tension, freshness, and terroir expression.

Occhione Special Edition Magnum

Since 2019, Occhione has been the estate's only white wine and is produced exclusively in small quantities. The name refers to the rare bird that lives in the dunes of Marina di Bibbona, a fitting symbol for the exclusivity of this wine. This Special Edition Painted Bottle Magnum is considerably rarer than the standard bottle and makes a special addition to any wine collection.

Moreover, the magnum bottle offers a significant qualitative advantage. Due to the larger volume, maturation proceeds considerably more slowly, allowing the wine to retain its freshness longer and develop even more complexity. As a result, the magnum is not only spectacular to present but also the ideal choice for long-term storage.

Vineyard and vinification

Occhione is made from 100% Vermentino sourced from sandy and gravelly soils in Bibbona. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand during the cool morning hours. After careful selection, only the free-flowing juice is used. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at low temperatures, after which the wine ages for thirty days on the fine lees with daily bâtonnage and then refines further for another two months in stainless steel tanks. This process yields a wine of remarkable freshness, texture, and elegance.

The year 2025

A relatively cool and wet spring was followed by a warm June and a moderate July with regular rainfall. The warm August ensured an early harvest, while rain in September gave the grapes their perfect balance. The result is a Vermentino with ripe fruit, lively acidity, and a beautiful mineral tension.

Scent, taste and character

The wine shines with a bright straw-yellow color and light green reflections. Citrus fruits, lime, and grapefruit dominate the aroma, complemented by Mediterranean herbs such as mint and sage.

On the palate, Occhione is lively and refined, with juicy citrus, ripe white fruit, and a subtle briny minerality. Aging on the fine lees adds extra texture and length, while the fresh acidity creates an energetic and gastronomic style. The long, mineral finish remains remarkably clean and elegant.

A magnum to keep and admire

This Special Edition Painted Bottle Magnum is much more than just a larger size. Thanks to slower aging, the wine develops even more harmoniously than in a standard bottle, while the exclusive painted bottle simultaneously makes it a sought-after collector's item. The combination of extremely limited availability, an iconic presentation, and excellent aging potential makes this edition particularly attractive to collectors and lovers of great Tuscan wines.

Drinking window and food and wine pairings

The 2025 Occhione Magnum is impressive even when young, but will gain complexity over many years thanks to its larger size.

Preferably serve the wine at 8 to 10°C.

Perfect with lobster, scallops, grilled fish, shellfish, ceviche, refined seafood pastas, risotto, sushi, and Mediterranean dishes.

In 1995, Lodovico Antinori discovered the potential of an area on the outskirts of Bolgheri for viticulture. After an evaluation, he saw the unique characteristics of this area and was convinced that he could create something new and unique in the wine world. A few years later, the Antinori family (Piero, Lodovico, Ilaria and his son Niccolò) and landowner Umberto Mannoni started founding Tenuta di Biserno. Adjacent to the historic village of Bolgheri, with a beautiful view of the Tyrrhenian sea.

The Tuscan winery has 49 hectares of estate and is located in Alta Maremma in western Tuscany between the hills of Bibbona. Due to the specific soil and climate characteristics, the area is divided into two zones. The Bolgheri area has a subsoil of rock; on these 40 hectares, the vines for Biserno and Il Pino di Biserno are planted. The vines planted on the vineyards are mainly Cabernet Franc and Merlot and in smaller quantities Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Tenuta Campo di Sasso, on the other hand, has 56 hectares with mixed (and mainly) sandy soils. This area is close to the sea and is therefore very suitable for varieties such as Syrah and Vermentino. Occhione and Insoglio del Cinghiale come from this area.
