Apostelhoeve Müller-Thurgau 2025 from Maastricht

De Apostelhoeve is situated on the sunny slopes of the Louwberg near Maastricht and is one of the most established names in Dutch viticulture. The calcareous soils and cool climate here produce wines with freshness, tension, and distinct minerality. Within the range, the Müller-Thurgau is one of the most refined and accessible styles.

Müller-Thurgau as an aromatic classic

The Müller-Thurgau grape was developed by Hermann Müller from Thurgau, Switzerland, and is a cross between Riesling Weiss and Madeleine Royale. The grape is known for its aromatic character and soft style. On the calcareous soils of South Limburg, this produces a wine with a fresh, light structure and an elegant expression.

Style and character

The style of this Müller-Thurgau is fresh and pure, with a light aromatic intensity and a soft, accessible structure. The wine combines elegance with drinkability while maintaining sufficient tension thanks to its fresh acidity and subtle minerality.

Wijngaard Apostelhoeve is one of the most famous and beautiful vineyards in the Netherlands. The winery is located south of the city of Maastricht on the Louwberg, an extension of the Cannerberg on the west side of the Jeker valley.

Wine grapes were grown in the Jeker valley as early as the Middle Ages. Around 1600 the 'Little Ice Age' ended this. Hugo Hulst, fruit grower, decided to build another vineyard at De Apostelhoeve in 1970. As a result, Apostelhoeve has now become the oldest functioning wine company in the Netherlands. Currently, this beautiful winery has an area of 6 hectares that is used for viticulture.

The soil consisting of pebble and marl with a layer of loess on top lends itself perfectly to the grape varieties: pinot gris, riesling, auxerrois and rivaner. Only white wines are made from these grape varieties, which are related in style and production to wines from Alsace and which also have a wonderful fresh, mineral taste.

Wijnhuis Apostelhoeve always works very carefully with all its processes. Take, for example, the harvest of the grapes. This is seen by this wine house as one of the most crucial steps in the winemaking process. The time of harvest is mainly determined by the ripeness of the grape, as measured by sugar, acid and tannin levels with winemakers making their decision to choose according to the wine style they want to produce. The weather can also be the roster of harvesting with the threat of heat, rain, hail and frost that can damage the grapes and cause various vine diseases.
