Apostelhoeve Cuvée XII 2025 from Maastricht is a versatile white blend with ripe fruit, fresh acidity, and a remarkably broad flavor.

Apostelhoeve Cuvée XII 2025 from Maastricht

De Apostelhoeve, situated on the sunny slopes of the Louwberg near Maastricht, is one of the most established names in Dutch viticulture. The calcareous soils and cool climate here produce wines of freshness, precision, and a recognizable style. The Cuvée XII has been one of the estate's signature wines for years and clearly demonstrates how a blend can bring extra complexity and balance.

Blend of Müller-Thurgau, Auxerrois and Pinot Gris

The Cuvée XII is composed of 40% Müller-Thurgau, 30% Auxerrois, and 30% Pinot Gris. This combination results in a wine with multiple layers. Müller-Thurgau brings freshness and aromatic expression, Auxerrois provides roundness and softness, while Pinot Gris ensures structure and ripe fruit. This blend creates a wine with both tension and breadth, in which the characteristics of the individual grapes come together beautifully.

Style and character

The style of this wine is accessible yet layered. The combination of ripe fruit and fresh acidity creates balance, while the calcareous soil contributes to a light minerality. The wine has an open character, yet remains refined and precise at the same time. This makes it suitable for both relaxed drinking and gastronomic use.

Color, aroma and taste of Apostelhoeve Cuvée XII

In the glass, the wine has a bright yellow color. The aroma is broad and aromatic, with notes of white fruit, red fruit, and exotic fruit, complemented by hints of melon and subtle floral notes. On the palate, the wine is clean and elegant, with a fresh start and beautiful concentration. The taste is balanced, with ripe fruit, light minerality, and a refined, fresh finish that lingers for a long time.

Wine and food

The Cuvée XII is highly versatile at the table. It pairs well with fish dishes, salads, pasta, and risotto, but also with veal and various cheeses. Additionally, this wine is a classic combination with white asparagus, where the fresh acidity and ripe fruit complement the dish beautifully.

Wijngaard Apostelhoeve is one of the most famous and beautiful vineyards in the Netherlands. The winery is located south of the city of Maastricht on the Louwberg, an extension of the Cannerberg on the west side of the Jeker valley.

Wine grapes were grown in the Jeker valley as early as the Middle Ages. Around 1600 the 'Little Ice Age' ended this. Hugo Hulst, fruit grower, decided to build another vineyard at De Apostelhoeve in 1970. As a result, Apostelhoeve has now become the oldest functioning wine company in the Netherlands. Currently, this beautiful winery has an area of 6 hectares that is used for viticulture.

The soil consisting of pebble and marl with a layer of loess on top lends itself perfectly to the grape varieties: pinot gris, riesling, auxerrois and rivaner. Only white wines are made from these grape varieties, which are related in style and production to wines from Alsace and which also have a wonderful fresh, mineral taste.

Wijnhuis Apostelhoeve always works very carefully with all its processes. Take, for example, the harvest of the grapes. This is seen by this wine house as one of the most crucial steps in the winemaking process. The time of harvest is mainly determined by the ripeness of the grape, as measured by sugar, acid and tannin levels with winemakers making their decision to choose according to the wine style they want to produce. The weather can also be the roster of harvesting with the threat of heat, rain, hail and frost that can damage the grapes and cause various vine diseases.
