Apostelhoeve Auxerrois 2025 from Maastricht is a fresh, fruit-driven white wine with a soft structure and an accessible character.

Apostelhoeve Auxerrois 2025 from Maastricht

De Apostelhoeve is situated on the sunny slopes of the Louwberg near Maastricht and is one of the most established names in Dutch viticulture. The combination of calcareous soils and a cool climate produces wines with freshness, balance, and a recognizable style. The Auxerrois is one of the estate's most accessible wines and is known for its fruity and round character.

Auxerrois on calcareous Limburg soils

Auxerrois, also known as Pinot Auxerrois, is a grape of French origin related to the Pinot family. The grape thrives in cooler wine regions and clearly feels at home on the calcareous soils of South Limburg. Here, it develops a style that is both fresh and soft, with a beautiful balance between fruit and structure.

Style and character

The style of this Auxerrois is friendly and accessible, with an emphasis on ripe fruit and a soft texture. At the same time, the fresh acidity provides sufficient tension, preventing the wine from becoming heavy. This makes it suitable for both everyday use and gastronomic applications.

Colour, smell and taste of Apostelhoeve Auxerrois

In the glass, the wine appears pale with a white-gold color. The aroma is fruity and open, with notes of apricot and peach. On the palate, the wine is fresh and supple, with ripe fruit and a light roundness. The finish is full and pleasant, with a soft, fruity length.

Wine and food

This Auxerrois is versatile. Ideal as an aperitif, but also very suitable with salads, light fish dishes, or dishes with a subtle creamy character. Its soft structure and fruity style make it easy to pair and accessible to a wide audience.

Wijngaard Apostelhoeve is one of the most famous and beautiful vineyards in the Netherlands. The winery is located south of the city of Maastricht on the Louwberg, an extension of the Cannerberg on the west side of the Jeker valley.

Wine grapes were grown in the Jeker valley as early as the Middle Ages. Around 1600 the 'Little Ice Age' ended this. Hugo Hulst, fruit grower, decided to build another vineyard at De Apostelhoeve in 1970. As a result, Apostelhoeve has now become the oldest functioning wine company in the Netherlands. Currently, this beautiful winery has an area of 6 hectares that is used for viticulture.

The soil consisting of pebble and marl with a layer of loess on top lends itself perfectly to the grape varieties: pinot gris, riesling, auxerrois and rivaner. Only white wines are made from these grape varieties, which are related in style and production to wines from Alsace and which also have a wonderful fresh, mineral taste.

Wijnhuis Apostelhoeve always works very carefully with all its processes. Take, for example, the harvest of the grapes. This is seen by this wine house as one of the most crucial steps in the winemaking process. The time of harvest is mainly determined by the ripeness of the grape, as measured by sugar, acid and tannin levels with winemakers making their decision to choose according to the wine style they want to produce. The weather can also be the roster of harvesting with the threat of heat, rain, hail and frost that can damage the grapes and cause various vine diseases.
