How does this wine taste?
How full and heavy the wine feels in your mouth, like the difference between skimmed milk and cream. More alcohol, sugar and oak ageing make a wine fuller.
The drying, grippy feel on your gums and tongue, as with strong tea. It comes from the skins and seeds of black grapes and from oak, and softens with age.
How much sugar you taste, from dry to sweet. Fruity is not the same as sweet: a dry wine can taste of ripe fruit.
How fresh and juicy the wine is: acidity makes your mouth water. High acidity tastes lively and refreshing, low acidity soft and round.

Log inLievland Vineyards' Pinotage Bushvine is made from Pinotage grapes sourced from vineyards in the Paarl region (supplemented with a very small percentage of Cinsault and Syrah). After harvesting, the grapes are immediately destemmed and crushed in the vinification cellar, after which they are left to macerate under refrigeration for 2 days. Following this, the must undergoes temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Pressing takes place after approximately 2 weeks, and the young wine is transferred to used oak barriques made partly of French and partly of American origin. After 12 months of aging, the wine is blended, clarified, filtered, and bottled.
The Pinotage Bushvine from Lievland Vineyards is deep ruby red in color in the glass. On the nose, aromas of red currants, raspberries, and spices. On the palate, notes of ripe small black-red fruit, rhubarb, and vanilla, accompanied by a finish with soft tannins and mildly fresh acidity.

Wine features
Riaan Möller - Head winemaker at Lievland: "South African wines are called wines from 'the new world', But with the long history of grape growing in the Cape, I think it's better to say that we find the perfect balance between new and old-fashioned styles. At Lievland Vineyards, we are fortunate to work with top-quality Stellenbosch terroir. We take classic varieties and make wines traditionally, striving for the perfect balance between old-fashioned elegance and bright fruit from the new world."
