Envínate Winery
Envínate was founded by four winemaking friends – Laura Ramos, Alfonso Torrente, José Ángel Martínez, and Roberto Santana – with roots in Galicia and projects in the Levante and Canary Islands, among others. Their philosophy is terroir-driven: working with old vineyards, spontaneous fermentation, and minimal intervention to prioritize the origin and grape variety. The style is modern Spanish, emphasizing freshness, layering, and nuance. More information about this winery can be found under the Winery tab.
2024 Envínate Albahra
Albahra is Envínate's Mediterranean red wine, originating from Almansa and Manchuela. A refined, fresh, and balanced blend with a distinct limestone influence.
The 2024 vintage is blended from Garnacha Tintorera and Moravia Agria, sourced from calcareous soils in Albacete, Castilla-La Mancha. It has an alcohol content of 13.5%, a pH of 3.42, and a crisp acidity of 5.8 g/l. Fermentation took place primarily in concrete, with the Moravia Agria partially aging in barrels. The wine was bottled in June 2025.
The 2024 vintage
After a dry start to the season, summer rain showers provided sufficient relief for the grapes to fully ripen. Harvest began about ten days earlier than usual, and yields were lower. This resulted in concentrated yet balanced wines, with Mediterranean ripeness and remarkable freshness. The team considers 2024 a powerful yet harmonious vintage.
Color, smell and taste
In the glass, Albahra 2024 reveals a bright ruby red color. The nose opens expressively with tart cherry, rose petals, and floral notes, complemented by hints of menthol and lavender. On the palate, the wine combines intensity with refinement. The fruit is vibrant and juicy, supported by fresh acidity and a light grip in the structure. The chalky soil lends tension and precision, while the Mediterranean signature remains clearly present. The overall result is balanced, energetic, and clear in style.
Professional reviews
The 2024 Albahra received 94 points from The Wine Advocate and 92 points in a supplementary assessment within the report "El Bierzo & Galicia: The Sil River Illuminates a Different Side of Spanish Wine" (drink 2025–2035). The wine is praised for its harmony, freshness, expressive aromatics, and intelligent balance between intensity and structure.

The red 2024 Albahra is the only wine I tasted this time, as the white was not produced. This is a blend of Garnacha Tintorera, Moravia Agria and Garnacha Tinta with a contained 13.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.42 and 5.8 grams of acidity. The varieties fermented separately with variable amounts of full clusters, and the wine matured in concrete, barrels and foudres. It has a harmonious and subtle nose with notes of flowers, herbs and berries with a spicy and earthy twist. The year was saved by some summer rains that allowed the grapes to complete the cycle. The harvest started 10 days earlier than normal, and they got lower yields. This is serious and balanced, following the nicely crafted style from the Envínate team, showcasing its birthplace. It's eminently Mediterranean with freshness and balance. This is a bargain for the quality it delivers. 66,000 bottles and 400 magnums produced. It was bottled in June 2025.
The Mediterranean wine from the Envínate team is the Albahra, which mixes grapes from Almansa and Manchuela.

From: El Bierzo & Galicia: The Sil River Illuminates a Different Side of Spanish Wine (Sep 2025)
The 2024 Albahra blends 65% Garnacha Tintorera and 35% Moravia Agria from the chalk soils of Albacete, Castilla-La Mancha. It opens with expressive fruit aromas of sour cherry and rose, accented by menthol and lavender notes. This fermented primarily in concrete, with the Moravia Agria aged in barrels. It is an intelligent, well-conceived expression that shows both intensity and a touch of grip.

Envínate is one of Spain’s most exciting projects, with roots in Galicia and work extending to Levante and the Canary Islands. Four winemaker friends—Laura Ramos, Alfonso Torrente, José Ángel Martínez and Roberto Santana—established this small winery in the Sil Valley. The wines stand out for their modern style, focused on expressing variety and terroir as well as balancing fruit with depth and nuance. Among the finest examples are the Lousas Doade and the Camiño Novo, both vibrant, layered, complex wines.

Envínate (translates as "wine itself") is the brainchild of 4 friends, winemakers Roberto Santana, Alfonso Torrente, Laura Ramos and José Martínez. This gang of four was founded in 2005 while studying oenology at the University of Miguel Hernandez in Alicante. After graduating, they formed a winemaking consultancy, which evolved into Envínate, a project focused on exploring distinctive plots of land, mainly in the Atlantic regions of Ribeira Sacra and the Canary Islands. Their shared goal is to make very pure and authentic wines that express the terruño of each parcel in a clear and concise way. To this end, no chemicals are used in any of the Envínate vineyards, all plots are picked by hand, the grapes are trodden and the wines are fermented exclusively with wild yeasts, with a varying proportion of whole grape bunches included. Before maturing, the wines are aged in old barrels and concrete, and sulfur is only added at bottling when necessary. The result is some of the most exciting and honest wines produced in Spain today.
