2024 Dumanet Syrah Grande Reserve
How does this wine taste?
How full and heavy the wine feels in your mouth, like the difference between skimmed milk and cream. More alcohol, sugar and oak ageing make a wine fuller.
The drying, grippy feel on your gums and tongue, as with strong tea. It comes from the skins and seeds of black grapes and from oak, and softens with age.
How much sugar you taste, from dry to sweet. Fruity is not the same as sweet: a dry wine can taste of ripe fruit.
How fresh and juicy the wine is: acidity makes your mouth water. High acidity tastes lively and refreshing, low acidity soft and round.

Log inThe Dumanet wines are the house wines in a number of star restaurants. As a condition for being allowed to carry these wines, we are not allowed to release the names of these restaurants, but these are sounding names and we can actually understand that people like to work with Dumanet wines because the quality is very good, the price is very attractive and the style in which the wines are made means that this is highly appreciated by almost everyone.
The vineyards are located in the heart of the well-known AOP of Languedoc: Terrasses du Larzac. But it is not Terrasses du Larzac that is written on the bottle, but IGP Saint Guilhem le Désert. This wine is made from 100% syrah and this is not allowed according to the rules of the AOP. Does it detract from the quality? Certainly not. The team behind Dumanet wanted to let the syrah from the limestone soils shine solo. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine remains in contact with wood for a few months to soften the wine and impart aromas of vanilla and cedar to the wine.
The vineyards are relatively close to the Mediterranean coast. This creates a unique microclimate. Because while it can get quite warm during the day due to the countless hours of sunshine, it can cool down considerably at night. This temperature difference has a very favorable effect on the growth process of the Shiraz grapes.
In the glass, the Dumanet Grande Reserve Shiraz is ruby red. In the nose we smell notes of dark fruit, licorice, violets, vanilla and pepper. In the mouth this is a warm Syrah, full and soft in taste, ripe tannins.
FACT : The label depicts 2 men cycling, reminiscent of the beautiful bike rides through the vineyards. In the past, the winemaker cycled through the vineyards with the thought of one day making a top wine from this, well, he succeeded so many years later.
