Persoonlijke gegevens
Marc Colin comes from a Burgundy wine family with a solid reputation. Together with his two sons, he manages a 20-hectare estate located in the village of Saint-Aubin in the Côte de Beaune. He owns only top appellations: Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Premier Cru vineyards in Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Saint-Aubin and Pernand-Vergelesses. This is very exceptional. Although this estate has always been known for its quality, Colin still sees opportunities to improve it. That is why he is receiving increasingly positive reviews in the international press. Colin's wines excel in purity and combine power with elegance. Perhaps a little shy in their youth, but with enormous storage potential.
Traditionally minded, he vinifies his wines with a remarkable intuition for nature. Although he is open to innovation, he sticks to a traditional style and strives for optimum freshness in his white wines, for example, and avoids the wood-dominated Chardonnay type. He is the most awarded winegrower from Gamay St-Aubin and owner of Restaurant Le Chassagne, which has 1 Michelin star.
As usual, the Saint-Aubin Cuvée Luce is a blend of three parcels that differ in age, exposure and soil type of the vine, making for a complementary cuvée. Revealing aromas of crisp pear, white flowers, honeysuckle and freshly baked bread, medium to full, ample and precise, with lively acidity and a chalky finish. The Saint Aubin wines are highly recommended and Colin is without a doubt the absolute king. This promising Marc Colin Saint-Aubin is a nice introduction to the Colin range.

As usual, the 2020 Saint-Aubin Cuvée Luce is a blend of three parcels that differ in vine age, exposition and soil type, making for a complementary cuvée. Revealing aromas of crisp Anjou pear, white flowers, honeysuckle and freshly baked bread, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and precise, with lively acids and a chalky finish.
Damien Colin began picking on August 22 in 2020. Now that the domaine is smaller, following his two brothers' secessions, he is able to be ultra precise about harvest date, sampling parcel by parcel, he tells me, and small volumes of wine mean longer élevage is feasible too. Percentages of new oak are down a touch in 2020, with no new wood at all for the grands crus, but foudres and larger barrels are also out of the picture, Damien finding most coopers' 228-liter barrels more consistent, and in any case, better adapted to vinifying smaller quantities. Pure, precise and flavorful, the 2020s are a terrific success at this address.
