2023 Velenosi Prope Montepulciano D'Abruzzo

Velenosi Prope Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Mooie is an elegant red wine made from 100% Montepulciano grapes. The wine has a beautiful ruby red color with light garnet reflections. Intense and characteristic bouquet, with notes of vanilla, red fruit, and spices. Delicious taste with very harmonious notes of redcurrant, tobacco, licorice, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Persistent, warm, and full flavor. A lively wine with a beautiful character.

The grapes for this wine come from the Velenosi winery's own vineyards. These vineyards are located in the municipality of Teramo and have predominantly limestone-leaved clay soils. The average altitude of the vineyards is 200-300 meters above sea level. The grapes are harvested by hand in mid-October, in the early morning or late afternoon, and then placed in small trays and stored in cold rooms before being transported to the winery. Once destemmed, the grapes are transferred to cylindrical "Gioiello" fermentation vessels where they are gently pressed. This type of vessel also facilitates movement during fermentation. This system ensures better and more uniform contact between must and skins, thereby increasing the extraction of polyphenols. Maceration lasts around 25-30 days. After fermentation, the wine is transferred to barriques, where it ages for approximately 12 months.
