Description

This 'forgotten vineyard' wine with sauvignon grapes comes from the cooler slopes of the coastal region of the Western Cape. The soil consists of weathered granite. In contrast to many South African Sauvignon Blancs, this is a fresh style wine with a clear Sauvignon expression, where it was aged 'sur lie' for a few months for more filling and structure. The Forgotten Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc has a slightly tropical character and something of boxwood, is very lively, with an attractive saltiness.

Johan Kruger, winemaker of Kruger Family Wines, became Young South African Winemaker of the Year in 2005 and received 5 stars from top critic John Platter. Johan's passion is chardonnay but has also proven his talent over the years in many other varieties and certainly also around Pinot Noirs. Johan Kruger grew up on a family farm called Sterhuis in Stellenbosch (South Africa) and learned the art of winemaking from Jordan Wines Stellenbosch and abroad in the US and Burgundy - hence the fine passion for vineyard-specific terroir-driven wines.

Johan Kruger is a very passionate and knowledgeable winemaker. In 2005 he won the Young South African Winemaker of the Year award and received five stars in the leading Platter wine guide.

In Stellenbosch he caused a furore at his father's wine estate, Sterhuis, but due to the necessary disagreement, Johan decided to start his own business. He had long been impressed by the emerging cool climate regions of the Western Cape in South Africa and had many friends here who wanted to help him. That's how Johan started the crazy project 'Kruger Family Wines', in which he locates very high-quality vineyards in the cool climate zones and (if necessary) lets the farmers work the land according to his philosophy and then buy the grapes from them.

Johan's wines are all about flexibility, elegance and balance.
