Ripassa is the little brother of the region's flagship, Amarone. This concept was conceived when the high demand for Amarone caused the prices of this wine to skyrocket. Amarone achieves its enormous concentration by allowing the grapes to dry out. For Ripassa, the winemaker uses a portion of this dried grape and a portion of freshly harvested 'regular' Valpolicella, allowing them to ferment again together, after which the wine matures for a further 18 to 24 months in wooden barrels. The wine is a blend of Corvina (60%), Corvinone (20%), and Rondinella (20%).
Arduini Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore has a beautiful, deep ruby red color and an intense and elegant nose of plums, mocha, candied figs, sweet malt, and cocoa. Beautiful balance and velvety smooth with a lovely structure. A wonderfully delicious glass!
