2022 Nin-Ortiz Planetes La Rodeda

Ester Nin and Carles Ortiz are the proud owners of this tiny wine estate with vineyards in Porrera and Torroja and in Gratallops. Ester is an oenologist and biologist and originally comes from the higher part of the Penedès, in El Pla de Manlleu. Carles is responsible for the vineyard, together with his mules Negret and Max. Ester is best known for her work as oenologist of Clos Erasmus in Gratallops and of NUN, the top white wine of Enric Soler in the Penedès, of which she vinified the first vintages. In all her projects she resolutely opts for biodynamics.

La Rodeda is a single vineyard cru from Ester and Carles. A small vineyard very close to Mas d'en Caçador planted with 80 year old vines of Garnatxa Peluda, a hairy-leaf Grenache clone that produces very elegant wines. The soil is black slate and the altitude is 700m. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically.

All grapes are harvested by hand and the grapes are cooled overnight. Vinification takes place in old barrels, just like for the other wines, and this wine was then matured in one barrique. Only indigenous yeasts are used, no correction or manipulation during vinification. A minimum of sulphites is added during bottling.

The La Rodeda is a fine Grenache, floral and delicate in aromas. In the mouth the elegance for which Ester is so well known, crystal clear where the barrel is hardly noticeable. Still young of course, with noble tannins that have quite some grip. Much freshness with a long aftertaste with lots of energy.

Only 304 bottles of the 2022 were made and all bottles are numbered.
